I just ran across this on eBay (and was outbid at the last second - damn snipers), an AEF designs Fast Attack Vehicle (FAV), listed as a USN SEAL DPV.
AEF FAV
Has anyone seen this before? Is it new? Is AEF back in business? I can't open their web page. I really want this one. It actually looks really good, esp. for AEF.

I've never heard of AEF Designs doing an FAV either. But, Hobby Fan has a 1/35 model: Kit number HF009. HTH.

Be Careful what you wish for. I would like to see the kit first hand before I ever bought another AEF Designs abortion. I rate them on par with Cromwell for customer service (particualrly if you are not in the US and quality that ranges from acceptable to unusable junk resin (every release i ever got was in this category - never again and good riddance if they have gone out of business.

Al - I hear you. I have had nothing but crappy products and crappy service from AEF in the past. The pics of the parts look good though.
Sort of. Hobby Fan's is of the little used, two seat DPV (Desert Patrol Vehicle) that was trialled by the US Army's 7th ID in the late '80s. It is not a USN SEAL FAV.
US Army DPV:
The US Navy FAV as used by the SEALs in ODS ('90-'91) was a three-man vehicle with a gunner over the engine in the rear.

Hmm quality looks pretty shoddy, I personally wouldn't go near AEF stuff, its not worth the hassle.

I too usually loath AEF products, but am willing to risk it for a FAV. It is one of my "Holy Grail" kits. I was stoked when DML announced it, then disappointed when they cancelled it. Then stoked again when Hobby Boss announced it, and disappointed again as it hasn't materialized either.
18Bravo - Rob, if you get up his way, can you inquire about the FAV? I am very interested in it and it isn't on his current site.

If I visit him, he's probably not going to be in the mood to entertain questions.

:) Thought that was what he might have meant!
As for buying _anything_ from AEF, my only advice would be to closely examine the exact kit you are thinking of buying. Don't rely on reviews, look at the exact box you are thinking of buying and if it looks OK (and you know enough to know that it is accurate as well) then, and only then, even consider paying your money for it. The quality varies so widely that one copy of the model can be fine and the next absolute rubbish.
The oft repeated stories also tend towards suggesting you ignore any problems you may later find in the kit you buy as there is unlikely to be any customer service from AEF.
He makes interestig stuff. Pity it seldom lives up to the billing. But sometimes it does, so if you actually find one of those good kits, buy it up.

Hey Heavy,I purchased an AEF T-64B turret from ebay and the casting quality was acceptable but it was horribly, I mean HORRIBLY inaccurate . The depressions on the turret roof are exagerrated, and the anti-radition laminate lacks detail. Matter-of-fact the top detail of the commander's cupola's and turret cheeks matched exactly to my old MB Models early T-72 and none of the other have dozen T-72 turrets I have. Makes you go hmmm Anyway,of course you can buy from any supplier you wish but I personally wont buy anything from AEF designs. Although tmy reply is late I hope it helps.

Yup, AEF generally sucks. I did contact him and the FAV is no longer available. I don't think I would have bought it anyways.

Supposedly. It was listed as "Coming Soon" for a couple years, but has now been dropped from their catalog. We shall see if anything comes of it. I hope so.

Looks like you are off to a good start. I have all the drawings and such to do the same. I was hoping the AEF one would get me there easier, but it doesn't look like.

I think misscarrage would be a better term for his stuff i bought his sf hummvee and sf M1078 conversions and all i can say is what a mess parts the resin had more holes than swiss cheese and lest not for get broken or missing pieces

Folks this guy or girl that is casting for AEF, sounds like my work when I first started casting with quick curing resin.
It looks like they have not using or have not learned how to use a pressure tank to remove the bubbles for there molds

Gino,
I would stay away from any products from AEF like everyone else has said his quality of casting and costumer service sucks. Been there done that.

The only products from AEF that I know are a sure thing and well-made are the AEF ALIENS series (yes, the Colonial Marines ALIENS movie). Those kits are extremely rare and highly sought after as accurate 1/35 Colonial Marines and alien warrior figures.
I haven't bought any AEF ALIENS figures, but from the photos on eBay, they look very good. And those item auctions are often snapped up.
