Okay just a little reseach question(s).

I got a 2cm Flakwierling 38, and it will be towed by a Horch 4x4 Type 1a.

I want to represent Stalingrad / 24th Panzer Division.

1.Does the license plate on the Horch have to be Luftwaffe? Or can it be Heer?

2.Will the Horch carry a 24th Panzer Division symbol?

3.What about the crew in the Horch? Will they have "Luftwaffe" ground uniform, or Heer uniform?

4. If the uniform IS Luftwaffe, can you point me to an online resource for a uniform colors?

Cheers,
MM

Tom;

2cm flakvierling towed by a Horch 1A...

Near as I can tell, it probably did not happen, or if it did, only in extremis! The Horch was often used to tow the standard flak 38 guns - these weighed in at around 950 lbs US. The flakvierling weighed over 3300 lbs. A whole lot more, and likely way beyond the towing capability of that Horch - at least on anything other than a nice, dry, solid, level road!

I'm not saying it DID NOT happen - but I cannot find in a relatively broad search about horch trucks and flaks, flakvierlings, etc., any pic showing such event. LOTS of pics with the flak 38 gun, and many also mounted on top of that truck.

The flak 38 flakvierling quad-mount was typically towed by a 3-ton-rated Opel Blitz or similar, or by an SdKfz 11 halftrack, or even by an SdKfz 251 SPW. Not generally associated with the SdKfz 10 series tracks, nor with the armored counter-part SdKfz 250.

My guess would be that a flak vierling would simply over-burden that Horch - and much more so when you start tossing crew into the truck and some ammo cans...

All that aside, I think you would have the option of assigning your gun to either Luft-flak or Heers-flak units, and I do believe 24 PD was at Stalingrad... where it was destroyed.

Cheers!

Piggybacking on this thread, who's got the best 1:35th Flakvierling kit out there?

I got a Bronco one. First time ever building them. The old Tayima has nothing on this bad boy.

From what I'm seeing the AFV Club kit may just edge out the Bronco by a hair. I'm putting one on my to-build list.
