Hello,
I have this old Italeri kit of the M1097 Humvee and would like to to know from some of you more knowledgeable people out there if it would it be authentic for the US Army if I built this kit with the canvas top option covering the back?
Thank you in advance, George

The canvas top is not so much an issue as is the incorrect mirrors and tires. In my opinion the Italeri HWMMVs were the worst of the bunch. That said, unless you were comparing kits side by side most of the differences would go unnoticed. Have fun with it.
I just checked an old Academy kit I will never build to see if you could use the mirrors from it, but they're not correct either.

Hi George,
Italeri shold have better names the kit an M998, which he is. I my point of view, the Italeri kit has still a lot of potential and it is a good and cheap base kit. But for a real M1097, you need for example:
-resin wheels e.g. DEF Models
-rear mirrors from scratch
-rear bumper from scratch
-better dashboard and seats
-SINCGARS radio
to name only a few.
And I still demand that we need some good new-tooled bread-and-butter HMMWV`s like M998, M1097 and M997.
Any manufacturers out there who take the challenge??
