I'm finishing off Dragons STZ 1941 model and it says to paint it H80/54 Khaki Green. I don't have that colour ( I take it that's a Gunze colour?) but I've picked up a tin of Humbrol khaki drab no. 159. Will that do for the exterior colour?

Using http://www.paint4models.com , there is no cross reference for any of the manufacturers save Gunze Sanyo.

Russian tanks were mostly all painted 4B0 green, which Neil Stokes describes as an olive green with a yellowish hue. Of course being Russian, there was some variability! I started with Tamiya XF-62 and added a bit of white and yellow until I more or less matched AKAN's 4B0, which I realize is pretty unscientific.
For what it's worth, I hope this helps.

In my opinion the color which looks the closest to the 4bo green is Tamiya XF-51 Khaki Drab. Actually, according to several reliable Russian sources, it looked more like a brownish color than a greenish one . Otherwise you can also use the olive drab XF-62.
The federal standars code of the Xf 51 is FSC 34088
http://www.colorserver.net/showcolor.asp?fs=34088
Anyway, as you know, color codes are not so important whe you paint a tank (not as important as they are for aircraft modellers)
For exemple if you re going to make some oil washes on your model, it would be better to work on a clearer base coat. If I were you I'd lighten the xf-51 with bit of Ochre yellow color (such as the Dunkelgelb or the Buff)
cheers

Thanks guys. I know this subject has often been talked about and it seems there's no definitive answer. Neil Stokes says 4BO is close to FS34257 and Spiderfromars you say it's closer to FS34088.
Hmmm..........still unsure which colour to aim for if I'm honest.

Just found this too..............
http://www.creativemodels.co.uk/paint_conversion.php/manufacturers_id/8/page/2
Which shows that the Gunze paint that Dragon recommends is the equivalent of Humbrol 159 which I mentioned and have, and also the equivalent of what Spidersfrommars said XF51.

...and other people say that actually it's close to 34102 (but I don't agree)
Anyway "Akan" is a Russian company which makes paints for model kits. It produces a 4bo green which looks this way
As you can see it's quite close to Tamiya xf-51

Indeed it is. So I've got Humbrol 159 which is close to XF-51 and that colour you provided and a tin of Humbrol 117 which looks close to the colour on Neils site.
Question is............. what do I do? I know some people say 4BO was never a certain tone of green but another qusetion is ---- if I do my STZ and T-34/85 in a winter diorama (which is what I was thinking about) ----- would they have had a white winter coat anyway?
Did all Russian vehicles have a white coat in Winter?

Yes, on average they did. A green tank on a white background would have been a target too easy to hit. However, as you can imagine, there were lots of exceptions
Anyway, if you're looking for original pics look here

Yes, I think that it would be a good recipe to get the right tone. I've also noticed that also the Gunze color Olive drab fs 34087 (H-304) looks quite close to the 4bo green
