I just receive the new RG31 kit from Kinetic.
Beautyfull kit well moulded, all parts fit fine.
The kit comes with vynil tires. AM firmes will surely make some replacement wheels.
But I'am very septical with the dimensions from the kit. Vehicule look very small compared with Humvee :

I dont have sufficient references for that,if some can help ? TIA

For vinyl, those tires look pretty good.
By the way, my CD has all of the measurements on it. Someone who has it can probably measure the kit against those. The kit looks pretty close though. The distance across the rear, once you have the boxes installed, is 2120.9 mm.

Nice work so far Pasacal. Kinetic's tires look like a big improvement over what was provided in the M-ATV kit

Pascal, here is a size comparison picture.
http://img158.imageshack.us/img158/4614/1mraprg31img294143345iq1.jpgI think that after putting the wheels and side boxes, everything will be OK.
Happy New Year! That's a nice build to start the year with.

I agree with Dimitar that when it all comes together it'll look right.
So, do you feel this one is an improvement over the M-ATV kit?

Pascal,
Check your email. I'm interested to see if you could just check the wheel base dimension as a start. It should be a good indicator for whether they got it right or not. My guess is yes.

Thanks all.
@Rob: I have put all pieces together, and can measure the wheel base.
WB from the kit is 97/98 mm. So it is very good. All other dimensions seems to be also OK.
@ Frenchy: the wiki pages are totally wrong to this point
But this RG31 definitively looks very small !!!
I put more pics later.

Not sure if this helps, I found this pic in my stash. It seems that the RG is almost the same height as a queen mary.

cheers
One of the serious problems in planning against Canadian doctrine is that the Canadians do not read their manuals, nor do they feel any obligations to follow their doctrine.

98 * 35 = 3430. That's only 11 mm off the original. Pretty darned close I'd say.

Looks like a nice enough kit to overlook the slight scale difference.

I'd say so. The actual wheel base is 3441 mm. In 1/35 that's 98.3 mm. I doubt if Pascal used a micrometer to measure it, but even if he did, if there's anyone out there that can tell me they can see a difference of .3 mm please let me know. NASA could use you. Then again, it may be spot on-look at where the rear axle sits. It's not quite centered underneath the rear buffer. I know that Pascal hurried to get this tacked together to get measurements. I say it doesn't get too much better than this.
I remember years of discussion about how the Tamiya M48 turret wasn't high enough, yet after measuring it in several places, and taking a micrometer to the kit turret, it turned out to be a tad too high. Go figure.

Looks good Pascal, the gap at the tire rim to the rubber looks wide. One of the main reasons I hate seperate tires/ rims. The Trumpeter T-62 has this same problem on the road wheels.
I wonder if thinned Tamiya Putty could fill it in, or wrappng the rim with a strip of styrene to close the gap.

11mm from the real WB, in 1/35 only 0,30mm. My measurements are not very precise, as all the pieces are just put together for the pics and not definitively in place.
Pretty good kit size!!!

Hi Gang,
got yetserday my RG-31 kit, looks great to me. I can`t wait to get Robert Skippers photo CD on the truck. Just one thing bothers me. If you build the UN version without weapons station,
where is the lid to cover the opening?
Cheers
