Can anyone please explain the significance of painting objects on IDF armor red? I have heard of only two reasons for "alternative matinence" and so reserve troops called up could find grab handles and tow hooks easier in combat conditions, who aren't familiar with the vehicle. Can anyone further elaborate on this. Such as a timeframe they did this? I still see it on modern IDF AFV's .
Thanks

Petr
At least since the mid 80's I have not seen it on older stuff, such as peace for galilee operation time frame. Cheers.

Hi Petr !
The meaning is exactly this. Certain parts were painted red to draw attention, especially for field maintenance.
For modern IDF armor, I saw these parts painted black.
Happy 2013!
