I'm looking for any info or photos of white painted, or white washed U.S. tanks in WW2. My goal is to paint an M5A1 Stuart at the Battle of the Bulge in snow camo. I saw a show on TV last year that showed about 4 seconds of actual WW2 footage of a Stuart being painted white in the field. But this was being done in the background of this film. (Wish I knew where I saw this). Questions: Did we (the U.S.) have snow camo tanks at the Bulge? Has anyone seen a Stuart in snow camo? Last, I'm gonna make an M5A1 Stuart of the 761st Tank Btl, attached to Patton at the Bulge (hope to do it in snow camo). This unit was an all African American tank unit. My best friend since 1970 is African American and we served together in U.S. Marines. Would like to do this in honor of him.

Found this one with a quick Google search. It appears to have a white wash.

In general, a liberal whitewash was applied, often with a mop or heavy brush/broom, and frequently looking very sloppy. Army instructions stated that a "cloud" pattern could be used to break up the vehicle outline. White bedsheets were also used, either draped on the vehicle or wrapped around specific parts, such as the barrel.

Don't have many photos of M5's, and none that I can find, though these might be just as useful;

Whitewashed M4 with additional white sheets to cover it.

M24

And another full whitewashed Sherman.

Also found this after a quick search (third post down);

Hope that helps a bit.
