I bought this kit on special last week - from what I can see it doesn't compare to the J model that I'm building up at the moment. Has anyone else built it?
Cheers, Cokes.

G'day mate,
I built it. You probably say this positively, ay ? :-)
Cos, ok, the new "J " comes with Eduard zimmerit PE set, but the "Ausf.D" is the only sample of his kind. And it's perfect.
Here i add the picture of what i've built (w/entering to Poland decals).I hope u'll like it.
Believe me it's, as u say (Bloody ripper ) U'll see when u finish it.
Take it easy

Hi
There's only one Tamiya D kit, and it's an oldy (from the 70s I think). It builds up OK, but it's not accurate in dimensions, if you care about that sort of thing.
The J has been released in an old version (same accuracy problems) and a new one with a higher MM number was released in the 90s. So you probably built the new J, a state of the art kit, and you're now dealing with the old D.
Good luck, it still looks like a Pz IV D when you are done!
Cheers
Andy

hi,
if you decide to build the D, you need to change the suspension. The suspension is for later types. if you can get an Italeri F1/F2/G that would have the proper suspension.

The Tamiya Pz1V AusF. D kit is a 70's kit intended for motorization, but can be made into a decent looking model with a little work. I built one over 20 years ago and have another I'm going to build with a few goodies. Luckily I do have the running gear from the Italeri F1/F2/G kit. Will also replace the tools with Tamiya's OVE set. I'm going to check to see if I can fit the Tiger Model Designs Pz1V rear plate to the D hull. I'm not sure, but I think there is something wrong with the turret.
ADDED NOTE:
The Italeri tracks in the F1/F2/G kit is almost exactly 36Cm scale width. 11/20/03

In february´s Military in scale there is a great article on how to correct and build a panzer IV ausf D. Its built as a DAK version, but alot of the information contained would be useful. Sorry i cant scan it! Maybe somebody here has it!

Thanks for the replies lads,
M113, that's a nice tidy build up. You're right andy, the mouildings say 1977 and it still has mouldings for batteries!
If anyone has the article that Plasticbattle is referring to, I'd love to get my hands on a copy of it.
Thanks for your help,
Cokes.

Cokes, another thing is the tracks that come with that kit are the late 40cm type It should have the 36cm version You may wanna replace the tracks then Of course if you add a lot of mud to it no one will know #:-) (++)

This weekend i will take a read through the article and write up the main points. A lot of kit-bashing to make an accurate model from what i can remember. But it did pay off as the finished model looked excellent!
