Probably another newbie question I'm afraid. But I learning loads all the time so please bear with me

Last model I made I used a pre-shading method on a single desert yellow scheme. I later added a lighter highlight colour on some of the panels. I was relatively pleased with the result, so much so that I didn't add quite as much oil wash as I originally intended in case I ruined it :O
I'm currently building a Late Panther G and I'm about 25 hours into the build - 6 hours actually building, 19 hours trying to interpret the instructions

Does anyone have any tips for getting a decent modulation on a tri-tonal camo? I'm afraid I would rank my airbrushing skill at around 5/10! I've seen an article on here where a guy did a tri-tonal with a preshade technique and it looked pretty good. My concern is that in trying to get the camo right I'm sure to apply too much paint and obscure the pre-shade completely.
Any ideas would be gratefully received.
