Hi folks,

Building the Vision models 75mm at the moment. A question on the carriage. I'm doing this one a British Airborne gun. Does anyone know if they transported the guns in the gliders with the barrel in the carry position or assembled in the mounted position with the British Style lock on?

I know the Airborne liked to transport their guns with the barrel fixed in the firing position, I was wondering if it would be the same for them loaded in the gliders?

Any thoughts?

Cheers

You'd think, had a quick look & haven't yet seen a loading diagram or pic showing it in the glider.

The 6pdr was loaded on the Horsa with trails extended, so a fair assumption to say the 75mm Pack Howitzer would have been, easier to remove from the glider.

something like this. http://ww2db.com/image.php?image_id=17817

Someone will prove me wrong now...

Hi Jon,

Many thanks, that seems to be the consensus of opinion.

Page 39 of the latest edition of "British Airborne Jeeps" by Rob van Meel has a loading diagram for the Jeep, lightweight trailer and pack howitzer. The howitzer looks complete and ready to roll.

Well worth getting a copy.......

Hi Simon,

Thanks, I have the book and the line drawing. An excellent reference. I just wanted to confirm they loaded them in the ready to fire position.

Cheers
