Do the Fast Attack Vehicle and Light Strike Vehicle concept work? By that I mean vehicles carried internally in the CH-47, CH-53, and V-22. I don't mean the GMV, FMTV "Warpig," or Technicals per se, but more of the purpose-built dune buggies, Land Rovers, Chenowths DPVs, Mercedes G IFAVs, GDLS ITVs, and M151 MUTT FAVs---anything that could fit inside a helicopter and be rolled off with machine guns and rockets.
I know the WW2 SAS and their WW2 Jeeps defined the FAV concept in the African desert, but since then, the FAV/LSV concept seemed to have taken a lesser importance in making a difference. The USMC used M151 FAVs for Embassy relief in Liberia and the US Navy SEALs conducted a raid using Chenowth DPVs in Kuwait and also in Afghanistan, but other than those stories, is the use of an internally-helo carried FAV/LSV really worth it? Seems like the West is obsessed with having one all the time and the results are some odd skinny and short specialized vehicles that look quirky next to a larger SOF 4X4 vehicle carrying the same kinds of armaments. Thanks.

An unarmored, lightly armed, light-weight, fast, quick-strike vehicle works well in a permissive environment where all you have to worry about are a few guys with AKs shooting at you. On the modern battlefields of the Middle East (the most likely place they would be deployed), the threat is too great for them. We need something a little more armored and able to take a punch. Also, if you can get a helo in to drop off the FAV, why not just bring the helo in closer and drop off the troops from it? Air assaults using fastroping has pretty much become the preferred SOF insertion method.
They do look awesome though. I still want to do one, either a kit, or I may just have to scratch-build one.
