I was running out of Future and discovered it was not being produced any more, and being replaced by Pledge, both made by Johnson's. I phoned their customer service and made enquiries. Apparently they are the same formula (and same product code), but the newer Pledge has less smell, a new label, and a new bottle. The customer service rep knew about it being used by modelers and assured me there will be no nasty surprises.

I've been using the same bottle of Pledge for almost 3 years, with mega years left before I finish the bottle. It's been consistent use after use, needs no thinning for air brushing, and has no smell. The bottle says "with Future Shine", so I'm assuming that Future was the original name of the acrylic, while Pledge is the Johnson & Johnson brand name. I've read several threads on Future at different modeling sites, and around the world, Future is sold under different brand names. The key is to read the label, and make sure it's 100% Future.

I guess in the US liquid Pledge has replaced Future much longer ago than here in Canada. It is only since late last year Future was replaced. Pledge was only available in a spray can for spray and wiping/polishing furniture. Unfortunately, spray Pledge is way too splattery and uneven for precise model work.

The easy remedy to that, is to decant it and run it through an airbrush.

I would not use spray Pledge on a model even if decanted I do not believe it is a clear coat but a wax.
Cheers Rob.
PS The liquid pledge is available.

Rob is right. Pledge cleaner/polish is exactly that. It's made for cleaning and polishing furniture. It doesn't contain Future acrylic sealer.

So if you bought it a while ago wouldn't it be past future. . . .

By the way, when spraying Future through the AB does one need to thin beforehand? And which method is appropriate for cleaning of your AB?

No thinning required. To clean the AB after using Future, I spray 91% Isopropyl alcohol through it.
