They use the same one as an M113 does. I didn't seen any used on them in Iraq though. This was due to them being mainly stationary on FOBs and not traveling on the roads often.

Here is an old M109 from Vietnam using the M113-style shields.

The only M109A6s I have seen with shields are the forthcoming M109A6 PIM howitzer, which has not yet been fielded. The PIM is the next-generation Paladin with a new hull and an improved Paladin turret on top of it.

Thanks Gino. I know I can count on you for answer. Any close ups on how they mount them for the newer version with windows? TIA.

Unfortunately, no. All I have seen of the PIM Paladin is far shots since it is still a prototype and hasn't been fielded to the Army yet.

Be buying one more set and get it done correctly.

Now awaiting my new air compressor to arrive.

Hope the folks here will enjoy my not so good work.

Looking pretty good. The new gun shield should not have the parts that angle back though. It is just a flat plate. I would cut them off. The windows on the side armor look too far back too. They should be in front of the hatch so the TC can see out of them. Right now, they look to be behind the hatch when it is open.

Unless you just want to build another Paladin kit, there is no reason to another one from Tamiya? It is the exact same one you have. It is simply a rebox of the Italeri kit with a couple accessory sprues from prior Tamiya kits thrown in. Nothing new in it at all.

I would wait for the forthcoming Riich Models one that looks like it will be awesome.

I have see the "cupola shield" being used on the M88 ARV in afghanistan. It looks right at home on this prototype as well. Keep on working it looks grate man.
