Has anyone else tried to paint current US forces in Afghanistan Multicam in 1/35 or am I going to be the first? If anyone has, what was the best technique?

Thanks Guys. I have 5 figures ( 2 AFV crew & 3 Diggers), along with their kit to do. I was planning on doing it in a production line, using 1 colour at a time. I printed out on a sheet of A4 a picture of the multicam and stocked up on the Vallajo. I will post some progress pictures up on the next week or so.

I have painted this pattern on some Airsoft guns of mine. It came out pretty good I thought.... my advice is that since we are talking about figures here, and they are so small... I would suggest one of two ways....
First and easiest would be to airbrush the greens on and then pick out the tans and browns with a small brush. There are two greens, two browns, and a tan in my paint and it worked out pretty good..
The other option would be to paint the tan where you want it, then try and pick it out with a liquid mask in small bits. Do the same for the browns, as they are pretty much solid colors ( chocolate brown anyways, the other has fade to it). Then once you are satisfied, spray on the greens in the spaces you have left, being sure to overlap colors in some areas.
As reference, the picture I posted, I used hard masks for everything. Hard negatives, where I just put the mask that was cut out of a manilla folder against the object and sprayed against it. I found that this was the best way to achieve the results you see .
Looking forward to seeing how you do with it in such a small scale!

Multi-Cam is just a variation on the old woodland BDU pattern. It just uses a couple more colors and omits black (since true black doesn't appear in nature often). It is best applied with small brushes as is described here in an article by Pete Becerra.

There is only one Multicam pattern, correct? Meaning there isn't one version with more green and another version with more tan for desert, right?
Also, I don't believe anyone makes 1/35 Multicam decals, correct? Would be nice to know if the decal process also works for Multicam.

Yes, there is only one Multi-Cam pattern. I don't know of anyone who offers decals for them, but the decals should work just fine. There are Woodland and Desert camo decals that work fine, so Multi-Cam should too.

I bought a couple different versions of the ACU digital camo in decal form, and I did not have alot of luck getting it settled down in all the nooks and crannies figures have. For my effort doing that, I will from now on just come up with a way to paint it on......

That is what I am concerned about. Modelers could also print their own decals and sell on eBay, but it's the ink and kind of decal paper that determines how the decal will adhere and settle in.
As many plane modelers know, Microscale decal film is the best, but I don't know if Microscale sells blank decal film. There was a review on a ACU decal that got so-so ratings here on Armorama. There are other makers of ACU decals too. Which maker did you use?
That's the first time I saw Multicam decals. Thanks for the link.

Hi Tony,
During my fight with digital camo on figures one fellow recommended breaking a toothpick in half and using the splinters as a brush.I cut mine a little finer and spread them out with the knife.Don't over dip it into paint and the results are pretty impressive.Takes a bit of trial and error and you have to go through some toothpicks, but you can get an awful lot of them at a dollar store.
Give it a try.

Yes they do. It's what I use.
