G'day all

I am looking for some Ideas for a diorama for my 1:35 Tamiya Sd.Kfz.222.

I have gone with the desert camo, so I am looking for a desert theme. I was thinking of trying to scratch-build a sandstone wall, if anyone has a good link for a tutorial.

Thanks in advance.

Mick

Why a wall? Why not try a well instead?

Perhaps being blocked by a camel caravan?

Firing at a mirage?

Attacking a sand-castle?

- this probably means that it's time for some sleep . . .

Only if it's outside an oasis . . . maybe just beyond the sandstone wall.

Which figures you will use on this diorama? static posed or dynamic?

Usually I don't recommend Verlinden, but they have usuable ruined walls and arches, and a well for a North African setting.

Hi Mick,

found a pic of a Sd.Kfz. 222 whose crew just changed a tire hit by a mine. The right rear fender is bend up and the damaged tire is lying on the engine hood. Interestingly, the crews are wearing coats and feldmütze.

In the desert firing at enemy aircraft. Build your wall & have other figures scrambling to jump behind it for cover. Have your 222 aiming at the sky like so.

Empty shell casings all over the place. Create a couple small bomb craters in the scene.
Or just a refueling/rearming scene. Get a bunch of 45 gallon drums , netting, ammo crates etc... figures reloading the 222.
As for a wall tutorial..can you add a picture of the type of wall you had in mind?

One of the coolest videos I ever saw was a German manned 222 pulled into an oasis setting, the CO looked over at the camera and finally realised that it was a British unit!! He popped back down and they tore butt out of there pretty quick! All real life action caught on film.
