Hi All - a question for the T-62 experts: In their 2013/14 catalogue, Trumpeter have a 'T-62 Mod. 1960' listed.
http://www.cybermodeler.com/catalog/pages/trumpeter36.shtml
I thought the T-62 came in three basic types: Model 1962, Model 1967 and Model 1972. Anybody know what a Model 1960 is? It isn't their existing Model 1962 kit, which is listed separately.
Thanks.

Yes their was a model 1960 version and from what I can find on it, it was a pre-production version. I haven't found a whole lot of info on the version on the web or any of my books. Not really sure what the difference were between this and the actual production run. I think it might have something to do with the way the turret is constructed, notes talk about it being welded. This release from trumpeter seems to be a one up very limited kit to only russian testing grounds. Another thing to take into account is that trumpeter has a bad habit of missing labling their kits.

Steam power.............I thought it used hampsters in a wheel to make it go
But if you also look at the same add, they list an Iraqi version as the model 1960 also. Very unlikely. Russian did have a few test vehicles they put through trails before production even started. Why they are trying to release this version is beyond me, now if they did the T-62A with the 100mm that would make more since.

Christopher, correct me if I'm wrong but I think that bulge on the rear hull of the T-62 is for the hampster wheel. Can be seen in this engine set.
;)
What about the Trumpy Iraqi T-62 1972 with ERA??! Sounds strange to me too.
Cheers,

Okay for the T-62 with ERA it's a T-62MV. I can't say for sure if it's Iraqi or not. The picture in the add is taken from a museum in what looks like England. I've found a picture of the original tank and more showing it full restored, no markings a visiable. I didn't think Iraq had this version of the tank due to cost.
I could of came from another country that the museum pasted off as an Iraqi version, maybe Syria or Iran passed on through Israel for testing.

Dr. Manersherob gives a pretty detailed history of the T-62 development process in his T-62 book, "The T-62 in Israeli-Arab Wars". Perhaps they are referring to the Objekt 166 project. Which was the predecessor to the T-62/ 1962 production version, which was officially seen in 1965.....

The marking for this tank shows to represent the first t-62 ever to be captured by foreign force during 69's sino-soviet conflict at zhenbao island conflict
Must be one of those first production model.
Beside the real tank it's in museum at Beijing as of now.

Looks like IWM Duxford to me. The Land Warfare Hall and the location of the barrier are pretty distinctive.

On a side note, Uzbekistan still uses ERA-fitted T-62's (at least they had some in 2012 )
