Excellent news for modern British armour modellers. Academy has updated its Warrior ICV. No longer will it be necessary to spend large amounts of cash on the Cromwell or AA updates (in theory at least). There will be a small report in the news section soon along with some pictures...Jim

Come on, I'd like to know more... what do the updates include? Will there be an interior in the new model? Anyway, I already spent a small fortune on AA updates... :-)

. Academy has updated its Warrior ICV.

I'm glad that I installed some new shelves in one of my rooms a week ago - it almost doubled my model kit boxes storage capacity. For the last month I had to suspend my purchases because I had no place to store new boxes. I have a plenty of room now - so, where can I order this new Warrior?

Maki, I'm sorry, I only got some pics from the Academy (german) website. There was no more info. available. It is on sale though, Tristar models in HK has it in their catalogue. Sorry for being so vague, Jim

Hmmm... I just checked Tristar and they only have the old, regular Academy 1365 model listed there. On German Academy site I was also not able to find anything else but the old Warrior.

Jim - I just sent you a PM. I have formatted and gotten your News Article ready to be published, but there is a syntax error that pops-up when I attempt to "publish" it to the Site. I've called in Jim and Bryan for assistance in clearing up the issue.

Sorry, but I see nothing new in photos above. This is still old (good?) Academy kit. I see no changes from the old kit!

I will need to take a look at the old kit (which is somewhere on my box pile) to be sure...

Vodnik, I am in total agreement with you... There is something not right about the front bins, what I saw on Academy's site confirms this, I'm sorry if I got it wrong, It looks as if it is a re-release and not a re-worked hull, once again, apologies. Just shows you that 6 years of high-school German is not much use after all....Jim

It's still good to see this kit re-released. The nose armour and transmission bulges are the biggest correction along with the missing front tow hook. The missing addon armor mount points can probably be scratchbuilt.

They probably didn't correct the sinkholes in the periscopes.

I took a look at my old Warrior kit a moment ago and noticed that pictures on the box even show the same model as pictures Jim posted above. Very good work for a "demo" model I must say - nice realistic weathering.

And I don't think we can call it the re-release. I believe that this model was available non-stop since it was first released. I bought mine from Hannants (UK) several months ago, and I saw it many times in local shops here in Poland, so it looks that in Europe it was never discontinued.

Lets hope that someone from Academy noticed this thread - the enthusiasm we shown at first, suggests that new upgraded Warrior kit would sell very well

I don't know yet. I think those Warriors don't have the additional armor installed (as they usually don't during exercise) and I want to use these parts on my model. I have the update parts set from Cromwell and there is older style additional front armor section in this set, so my choices can be limited. I would like to build IFOR vehicle, but they had newer front armor. So either I modify this part, or will need to build classic Op. Granby vehicle.

Wheather its the old kit or a release of a modified kit, I still am glad to see it back in circulation. Sometimes you know when it comes out, you should buy more than one, but
we never do!!!!! Then it's gone and it''s too late.

What is the newer style front armor? I've seen several pics of Warrior in Op Granby that didn't have the tow hook mounted on the front armour but other than that I don't see any difference.

As far as I know, tow hook was not mounted on Warriors in Op Granby... apparently it was first used on IFOR vehicles.

Paul, That's exactly what I meant. Probably the armor block itself is indeed the same, but the installation of tow hook changed this part significantly - originally the "pocket" was welded directly to the armor block, or possibly it was even one part with it, as there was no seam visible between these parts. Now these parts are separated by tow hook and its mounting brackets. It probably is easy to modify the Cromwell part I have and add tow hook to it, but I don't have good close up pictures of those mounting brackets.

Mario,

You're right. I assumed that it might be used in OP Granby because the AA set includes the tow hook but I'm sure the set is intended for a broader time period.

Pawel,

If you want to scratch the hook then I'll see if I can find any good shots between the Darlington and Concord books. Here is a good shot from one angle at Full Metal Jacket:
http://fullmetaljacket.tanxheaven.com/war/ifv11.jpg
Full gallery:
http://fullmetaljacket.tanxheaven.com/war/war.html

I thought I had read somewhere that the side armor panels need to be moved forward a little bit. Anybody else read anything about this?

I have the Concord book, but don't remember seeing a good picture of this area there.

I took a look at pitures in the Concord and Europa Militaria books yestreday and decided that actually pictures there are clear enough to allow for modification of the front armor and adding the tow hook. So my Warrior may end as IFOR vehicle after all

Pawel
