Last night I heard a rumour that AFV Club have an M48A3 & a Vietnam version of the M109 155mm SPH in the pipeline?
Could this wonderful news be true?

I guess it's more than just a rumor (regarding the M48A3 at least)

http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.485564811489043.105985.236926266352900&type=1#!/media/set/?set=a.485564811489043.105985.236926266352900&type=1

and it wouldn't be too far-fetched to see a Vietnam era M109 in the (near) future...

The M48a3 is real, and due out next month. The M109 is an M109a2 if memory is right. The strait up M109 like they used in Vietnam will need a new upper hull, barrel, and turret mods done to it. (one has the floatation device and the later one dosn't. The M109a2 never saw combat in Vietnam.

Should AFV do the M109 (RVN issue), then they could following this later with an M108!! I'd rather seen an M110 and an M107 combo kit! Many M110's were actually rebarreled M107's and vise versa

Bad news: I just recently bought the Tamiya M48A3

Good news: I haven't bought any aftermarket bits it for it.

The Tamiya kit isn't that bad. The turret is correct, the angle is a little off but on a 1/35 scale model nobody can tell. I think the reason everybody thinks it's off is because most all pictures of them are from the ground up, that makes it look strange, it changes perception. I have read a few guys actually measuring them and they are spot on. The TWS turret is nice along with their cupolas.

I have seen a lot of M48s and I think the Tamiya rides a little high. With the aftermarket kits and a little work you can build a very good M48A3.

Now as for the Monogram, forget it. But the Tamiya kit and get the Legend conversion to the M48A2. There's also a lot of goodies in there like the shapeded muzzle brake.

I am looking forward to the AFV kit and hope they have a lot of extras like the older arc light along with the Xenon one. And the 2 different muzzle brakes as well as the correct rear sprockets.

The correct sprockets come with the DEF track kit and you can also get them from a German company in white metal.

So the Tamiya kit is a bit of a dog but I have seen some really good models come out of it. I am hoping the AFV is amazingly good, I figure it's going to sell for over $50 in the USA.

I, for one am looking forward to the M48. It's always been a subject which has appealed to me but i've never fancied going down the route of loads of AM and a major rebuilding project - other subjects yes, but not the M48..

Hopefully it'll be a good, accurate OOB build.
