I'm on my way to order these figures :
Legend LF0115
I want to put them on a Ardennes Tiger 2, but I have no real idea about the color scheme that would fit the best...
There are for sure some specialists here to give some advice.
Thanks!

Hi
I think they look great figures but a little underdressed for the Ardennes Campaign, given it was in December and in the later half it was snowing.
Maybe you should consider some different figures or a different
timeframe.

Yes, these ones look good too!
I will reconsider my choice.
I should look on some history pics to have a better view.

The most common late war camo patterns was the Erbsenmuster, or 'pea pattern', especially on panzer uniforms. Articles of clothing were often mis-matched with other camo patterns, or black, or even field-grey. It is common to see pics of troops with camo jackets or smocks and solid color pants, or vice versa. Do a Google image search for 'Erbsenmuster' and you find many detailed close-ups of the pattern as well as samples of clothing in that pattern.

I have seen hundreds of pics of German tankers from the Ardennes action and they are all wearing something different! Anything you use could be correct, even the first figs you posted would work if you used some putty and put a turtleneck sweater on them underneath the uniform. Leather, fleece, black panzer wrap, pea dot cammo or any mixture is all authentic!

That's right! The later the date the more varied and random the uniforms became. There are even pics of SS troops (Das Reich, I think) wearing the 'Kharkov' anorak during the Ardennes fighting.

Just one small point. SS were never issued reversible camo parkas and trousers in Western Europe. Any shots showing units wearing it will be from Russia or Eastern Europe. A common mistake and a bit of info I only found out myself recently.

It was from a guy who is really into his German uniforms and militaria. At first I wasn't sure myself but when thinking about it I can't honestly say I've seen a pic to dispute it. All the shots of the Ardennes show the SS in greatcoats, smocks, Dot tunics over wool tunics but no camo parkas. If there are pics to prove otherwise I'd love to see them.

Hi
Yes it's something I've only found out about this in the last year or so. It's one of those things you kind of take for granted as being so, late in the war, winter time etc. until you start looking and as Chris has said, I couldn't find any pictures of German SS troops in the reversible camo parkas and trousers in Western Europe operations. I have found Heer troops in normal white/camo reversible uniforms but no SS, to date.
If anybody comes across a photograph please either post it up or a link to where it can be seen.

Guys, troops were often moved from East to West and from West to East... anf the uniforms followed them...

Thats true in some cases, however camo was often issued in certain theatres or even before a campaign or battle. It would be handed back in afterwards and was not part of the standard issue kit. Any photos proving otherwise please share.

I forgot to add that and I agree. Check out the often shown videos footage of LSSAH in the first part of the Ardennes affair and you will see no reversable padded winter clothing.
I have only seen the Heer guys with that gear.

Well, I'm going to purchase these ones anyway for another project, but, well, what colours should they be painted with their kinds of uniforms, black, camo pattern?
I'm sure some uniform specialists have an answer!

I cant quiet make out if the first two fihures are SS or Heer. Either way they can both wear plain black panzer uniforms. If they are SS you could paint them in Pea Dot camo or a combination, say black panzer wrap and Pea Dot trousers. The second Mantis figure is deffinatley Heer. Not sure if Heer panzer crews wore Splinter pattern uniforms or just the black. I know I've seen Splinter panzer wraps but not sure how common they were or if th ey were a private purchase or tailor made garment

Yeah,
That last pic is a Heer tanker and the panzer wrap would be black wool or reed green denim. Hard for my old eyes to tell from that small pic but if he is wearing the winter reversable pants they would be white or splinter pattern as well as the mittens.
The only splinter cammo wrap I ever saw was a crewman in a Jagdepanther but that was a privately made uniform piece.
