ok,here's the problem
got 2 metal figures and i painted them black...for an undercoat...got up this morning and they've flaked a little bit...is this normal or should i go for a decent primer or should i just carry on.I am new to all this so your help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.The figures are going to be gloss figures by the way.

How did you prepare the figures? For metal figures I wash them in detergent, and then dry them with a hairdryer. Undercoats on my metal models are always enamels or automotive primer as these adhere to the metal better than acrylics..........

Steve as Dave has said get down to the garage and get a matt undercoat rattle can.

Whenever I deal with metal parts, I wash them in mild detergent and then prime them with automotive or Tamiya rattle can primer. Or for small parts, I usually brush on Gunze Sangyo Mr. Metal Primer.

I've had lacquers flake off of prepared metal. I use Rust-o-Leum primer, as it is made specifically for metal.
