Hi,
I've just bought the great Miniart kit of this truck; as it comes with a detailed engine, I'd like to build it with the hood open but unfortunately I don't have any reference picture of the engine.
Anybody knows where I can get some engine pictures of this truck? Any source would work for me (internet, book, etc)
Thanks in advance for your help!

Long before Mini Art came out with their beautiful offering I had to compose my own version. I combined the Steyr Medium Field Car body from Tamiya with a chopped down hood and radiator from the Italeri truck and a custion built chassis and engine. The bodies were often built by a separate, third party coach builder to a standard design so it is perfectly OK to swap bodies between different chassis/hood manufactures.)

p.s. A chopped down Kommandeurwagon body looks awfully nice on a Horsh chassis and hood!

I have another (unrelated) question about this vehicle; I've noticed that in the kit instruction the chassis is painted in black (even for desert vehicles), is that ok? In case this is true, what type of black is this? gloss or matte?

Ruqui;
Hi!
It was a fairly standard practice in the German (European) car and truck industry of the time to paint main frames in a black industrial enamel over the primer - civilian, commercial, and military cars and trucks (almost all more or less items adapted from stuff on the civilian market) probably always had such treatment at the "starting point" in the factory. This seems fairly evident from assembly-line and new-truck factory photos.
Your question may however become one of "did these frames later get repainted in whole or maybe only the outer sides when vehicles were repainted in the field or repair - shop?" I suspect that some may have been over-painted on the outside faces later.
The initial black enamel would probably have been a semi-gloss or "satin" black finish. Of course, this would rapidly become dirt-modified and stained, and probably "never" appeared as a gloss black at any point in the field. You would NOT have seen hardly any truck or car out in any part of the military field with a nice, black frame showing!
Leastwise, this is my general understanding and I'm sticking to this story!
