Hello Friends,
I have a question in regards the use of oils on washes:
My model is all painted with Tamiya acrylics and a coat of Future as a base to receive the washes.
What is the best/correct diluent to be used with the oil paints that will not attack the undercoat of Future and acrylic bases?

Regards,
Jorge Henrique

Hi Jorge,

I used a 1:10 ratio of oil to odorless turpenoid. I tried this on both Vallejo and Tamiya paint direct (i.e. no gloss coating) and with gloss coating. I don't see any damage or issues with it.

Cheers
Thomas

Odorless Mineral Spirits from your local art store should work well also. Diluting depends on how intense you want your wash. For Overall "sludge" wash, if you will, 90% thinner to 10% or less paint. When I want a different effect I add more paint or more thinner to this. Cheers.
