I thought I'd start a new thread for the duel-duel TRM and I are having since the Part 1 is under the L70 title. Basically it's a duel build of a new release and old release version of the same vehicle. In part 1 we tackled the PZ IV L70 (A), and now we are dueling the StuG III ausf F both from Dragon.

OK for my part two I have the newer Dragon StuG III ausf F kit, and T has the older release. The model is basically built out of the box since there really isn't much that could be added, besides AM products..but you really don't need it to build a good looking model like this one.

Will start off with some wip pics and the interior.

And here with some bits added to the upper hull and the motor deck nearly done.

OK, here is what I have after last night's efforts.


Here we go! Sneaking this one in amongst a few other things on the bench at the moment. This is what I have to start with...



This half of the duel I will be using the older version of the kit Rob used.



So last night I cracked the box and started to glue things together.



So far so good. Thing are flying together.



Oh it's nice to have the road wheels out of the way and I can concentrate on the rest, however, I still have the early Dragon links to put together still. I will save them for movie night!! Sit and sand sand sand..........

Well, back to the bench for a bit. If I am lucky, I will be slapping some paint around soon enough!!

Switched some gears as I came across a fork in the road and decided to take a left instead of the right. I think you might be able to guess somewhat where this is going...



A little destruction was in order from what I originally had planned. Picked out a hunk of foam for the bulk of the base.



I wasn't too happy with the barrel from the kit so I decided to just go ahead and make one



Then it was time for a little priming!!





Pretty much where this stands. I primed the wheels too so far. Might sneak downstairs in the morning to start laying some color and chip away at the base.

Hey James! Thanks! I like the new AK Primer. Goes on smooth from what I am seeing. I really like the Dark Yellow. I tried some out playing around...awesome primer/base for sandy vehicles!!

Hi Bob! Thank you! One of these days I will shell out some cash for a mini lathe and make ALL my own! Some Aluminum and plastic tubes, sandpaper and glue does the trick sometime though!!

OK, in an effort not to bore anyone I will add a couple more pics here before moving on to the next stage(s) of this one. I revisited the AK Rust colors again, this time adding more points of color which will be needed later.







That is this part done. I have a clear coat on and will move on. I looks like the family is full up on Easter Dinner still, which might permit me to retire to the booth again in a bit. Wish me luck on that one!!

That rust base looks great, T. While I've been using the Lifecolor rust set, it looks like I may have to pick up on a couple of the AK shades, too.

OK, a little playtime. I decided to go a few rounds with this one this evening. After a nice clear coat over the rust base, I went after a little primer of the oxide variety. First, there is not a big jump in the color spectrum from rust tones to red oxides but there is a faint difference and very little of this will show here and there.





After laying this oxide part on, I chipped a bunch back in select areas and gave another quick clear coat. A little hair spray and some salt I tossed down the first layer of dunkelgelb.



After the base was on, a number of layers followed...three more to be exact. I actually switched up from hair spray to AK's Worn Effects.



This allows for certain layers to be chipped more easily than others. Just a process...so more salt and chipping fluid...





Finally, all that salt needed to be removed and this is where she stands.





I am still able to see a number of colors from all the layers







There is plenty more to do, since I have not even hit the weathering stages yet on this.
