I foolishly sold the magic tracks, for my Pz. III J. I am looking for indi tracks to replace them. Workable or not, looking for opinions on am tracks.

I have magic tracks for them that I don't use. PM me your address and I can send them out to you.

MK (Model Kasten) tracks are my preferred 'go-to' for AM sets as they are cheaper than Fruils, workable, and are styrene so no special handling required in terms of painting per se. If you go that route for the J, then the set you would want are SK-18s. HTH!

Bill: Thank you. Although Mike has already solved my dilemma, I would like to continue hearing opinions. I'm hoping threads like this will be found beneficial, not only by myself but by others as well.

No problem Matt! Tracks are a necessary evil and everyone settles eventually on their own preferred method/type to use on a given build. You can never have too many options in that department IMHO!

My first attempt with AM tracks was Friuls for my Panzer IV D. I ended up with re-drilling 400 holes on 200 links which took me a couple of hours. I like working with metal tracks, so for my next projects I ordered a few sets from Spade Ace. Haven't assembled any of those yet, but I've tested the holes in the links and they are pretty nice straight from the factory.

I did order a set of Friuls for my current Super Pershing-project and those actually look good with regards to the holes. Looking over a few of the links, it looks like the first set of Friuls I ordered was either before improvement of their production or a bad batch.
Friul use copper or brass for their wire though, compared to the steel/aluminum that Spade Ace use.

@Bill: Where do you get Modelkasten tracks from? I've looked for it on eBay, but I can only find an Australian seller at higher prices than both Friul and Spade Ace.

I'm here in the US so I use RZM Imports as my source for MKs. http://www.rzm.com While they are primarily a printed materials supplier, they also stock MKs and a few other products. Used them for years now.

I've heard of Friul's tracks needing to be re-drilled, a couple of times now.

Most of it has come from me, I bet.

@Bill: I checked out that site, but they're on the same price level as any other seller I've come across. I get my Friuls from Poland and Spade Ace from Hong Kong through eBay.
