I have seen it done with expanding foam. The type used for insulation.

There is a post here of a flame tank. Cotton molded over a wire and painted to good effect.

Great, thanks could you put a link. Is there anything I could use for the tube that connects the tank to the propellant. Many thanks.

For that tube I would use solder wire. Easy to bend to shape.
When you are making the flame remember how the thing works. It shoots a jet of liquid under pressure like a high pressure fire hose. The ignitor at the tip of the "wand" lights this liquid as it shoots out of the wand so what you are seeing is a jet of liquid that is on fore. It always helps to model something if you know how it works,I think?

Hey Harry, for the tube connecting it I used some hollow rubbertube that came out of some Tamiya kit years ago. It fit th stub on the tanks and the gun it self. Couldn't tell you what size it was, you might even have some in your spare parts bin. I dry brushed it with a pale grey to give it some worn look. That was about 6 years ago and it still looks good.

Many thanks for your replies, some great ideas. I have used wire for the tube on the flamethrower and I have the guy with it crawling, its a Vietnam US grunt crawling so will upload some images later.
