Howdy,
After a buying spree of Panzer IVs, I realized some reference material might be handy. Doing some googling these titles seem to crop up most often in the price range I'm looking at:
Panzer IV - The Workhorse of the Panzerwaffe: Carruthers
PANZER IV AT WAR 1939 - 1945 (Images of War): Thomas
Panzer IV: Pzkpfw Ausf a - J (Tanks in Detail): Forty
Panzer IV & Its Variants (The Spielberger German Armor & Military Vehicles, Vol IV) Presumably the old version
Panzer IV: The Wehrmacht's Armored Fist : Jurado/Franco
Panzer IV: Heimdal
I realize this is quite the list, but any opinions would be appreciated. I'm looking for something that has good coverage of variants and in action photos for the D and up. The newer Spielberger and Achtung Panzer series are a bit pricey, although of course, they do provide bang for buck in details. I do have the Achtung Panzer Stug volume and an older Polish one on the H-J models as starting points, so I'm not completely in the dark.
Thanks in advance
TIA

The old Spielberger book is excellent and very useful. You might also like "The Workhorse of the Panzerwaffe".I believe that these two are all that you need for start.

I just recently picked up the "Wehrmacht's Armored Fist" book. For the price, it's hard to beat (I think I paid about $15 for it from my LHS). Lots of info along with some nice pics and a lot of color plates showing various paint schemes. It also goes into the tank's service after the war and has a section on the rebuild of one by the Spanish museum.

I've always thought the Squadron/Signal book was good value for money spent.
