Hi,

Has anybody seen a product that could be used to build a pebble beach in 1/35th?

I thought of using real stones but I can't seem to find any small enough. I have seen some fruit by woodland scenics but I don't know if the will be too round?

Since you mention Woodland Scenics, why not use N Scale ballast? Comes in several colors too.

I thought of that but I thought it was far to irregular in shape, too much pointiness!

I was in the need of the same a while back. I went to a near by stream/creek/river scooped up some sandy rocky sediment on the bank. When I got it home I soaked it in some bleach water for a while to kill off any critters or bacteria and placed it out to dry. I then just sifted it using different size meshes giving me I think three sizes of rocks that were smooth and roughly the same size.

Some kinds of fruit or vegetable seeds are tiny and smooth. They will need painting for a stone color. You might want to research that.

Check out kitty litter(unused of course...LOL)or oil dry. It's generally made of clay and has rounded features. The SO buys some high end stuff(nothing but the best for,ah kitty cat)that I've used in the past (kinda fine texture with grey/brown color)that didn't really even need painted.Lay it down, cover with thinned white glue, when dry dullcoat it if needed as the white dries with a light sheen.

The oil dry generally needs sifted & washed and works better in larger scales or for size differences in smaller scales.

Hope this helps,
Jake

Checked it out and it seems to absorb liquid so maybe it will work, still can't see the shape and size though! And it is pretty expensive

Maybe sea salt? You would have to paint it, of course.

I forgot to add, if you're going to try seeds you might want to microwave them first to make sure they won't sprout and start growing on your dio , although I have used mustard seeds as eggs and they've never germinated.

I would take quarry sand mixed with white glue and water. The surface is very hard and grainy after drying. I've made good experience in 1:16. In 1:35 it should Look like pebbles.
Sorry for my english....In German quarry sand= Quarzsand.
Best regards
Frank (Lappes)
