Hi guys, can anyone tell me the length of the towing hawser for a Centurion 5/1 with rear fuel tank fitted. I would presume that they were longer than standard?
Thanks for your help, Martin.

No definitive answer in this thread but it's worth the read anyway

Hi
the length of a tow rope is 30ft , the long range tank was also fitted to centurion bridgelayer and gun tanks and ARVs
I measured my bridgelayers and a gun tank and AVRE
hope it helps .

Hi guys, thanks for the replies.

Brian, nice clear close-ups, thanks, though the ropes on the Cent. in your photos look too short/tight compared to VN war photos.

Frenchy, thanks for the link to that thread, good but as you say, no firm result (and a site I'd not come across before, now bookmarked )

Ossie, thanks for taking time to get real measurements, though your post provokes another question: how do you fit a long range tank to an ARV? Surely the earth anchor gets in the way

Cheers, Martin.

I'm close to finishing an AFV club Shot Cal, & I'm sure I read somewhere that tow cables were usually only fixed at the rear of the vehicle, and left toile unattached on the side of the tank; maybe that is where the extra cable sage has come from, a cable not attached to a forward fixing point as it should be?
