Hi there,
this is my latest piece of work.
despite tracks and rear mudflaps aren't attached as of now I'll call it done for now. (I didn't build the model for myself so I'll just leave the remaining work to somebody else ) also the tank hasn't yet been fixed to the base but since I'll be using this one I thought I'd just include it in the pics.
The model is based on an Italeri hull along with Perfect-Scale's newly released 1A5 turret, their Leopard 1 tool clamps, engine grille and roadwheels...
all in all construction was pretty much straight forward. no major corrections needed and all the resin and PE went together exceptionally good...
as always painting was done using tamiya acrylics, followed by some simple weathering using acrylic glazes and oil washes topped off by some pigments. nothing out of the ordinary this time since I was asked to keep it sublte for once
enjoy!
Cheers, Max

Nice virgin! Pigments and weathering are always optional. Are the rear mudflaps modified?

Could you tell us a little more about the build? Anything to look out? What difficulties you had while building?
Thanks,
Thomas

Hey Max
Told you it would be fun and rewarding to build a Leo 1.
The turret looks really impressive when painted ... Real improvment over the one supplied with the basic kit.
Did a great job uptil know
Cheers

thanks guys!
Matt, yes, they're folded up. I used PE parts for this, not shure from where I got them though, could be Eduard or something else...
I cut out a rectangular section from either side of the rear side skirts as well.
Thomas, danke! well, what can I say.. the build went really smooth, the only real issues I encountered were related to the italeri hull... I had to replace the cross at the rear plate and the headlights with some PSM parts I had in my spares box. also the MG3 is from a tamiya Leo 2A6 kit since the italeri one looks pretty crappy. lots filling and sanding needed all over the place... you might also wanna keep in mind that the italeri kit lacks some details such as the drivers periscope cleaning devices and the screws atop the little air vent (I believe that's what it is) on the left upper hull. I was too lazy to add these since I only had three weeks to get the kit built, painted and fully weathered...
reagarding the PSM turret the one thing to be a bit more careful with are the photo etched spacers underneath that ring around the commanders cupola. the parts are really delicate and break off easy when trying to attach the ring to mount the machine gun. also it might be of help to attach the smoke dischargers first and then, after having 'em lined up glueing on the two protectional frames around 'em. I did it vice versa. hence it took me a bit longer than expectet
all the other PE and the roadwheels were nicely done too (not to mention the trouble I've saved myself filling and sanding down all the kit wheels ) .
which kit will you be using as a base btw.?
Cheers, Max

Thanks for the infos Max!
I am still undecided, if I shoot a 1A1A1 or 1A5 from Evilbay (still 30 Euros + but no need to source decals) or using one of my two 1A4 kits (0 Euros, but a decal problem).

well, I've used some Tamiya Leo 2A5 decals for the maltese crosses, unit markings and license plates (had to cut the last two digits from one of the square rear license plates and attache them to one of the narrow ones for the front of the 2A5. Weight disc comes from PSM. Since I had none I left the fuel cap markings off. Think I have found a reference pic somewhere of a 1A5 without these makrings...

Looks veeery good.
Could also be my next project. What is the basis kit, is it the Italeri Leopard 1A5. Where did you get yours from, I am also from Germany?
Thank you!

yes, it's the italeri kit. I got mine from a friend. but you can still get some off ebay (both revell and italeri. another option, in case you want to use the PSM turret, would be getting a Leo 1A4 from here its the italeri kit and should build nicely into a 1A5 with a new turret...
