Hi All,
For some reason I was crawling around in my loft and re-discovered some old metal figure models (Grenadier fantasy figures, but my real question's about paint removal hence putting the post here).
They must be over 30 years old and, I thought, I'll re-paint them and (maybe) do a better job with the new techniques and skills I've accrued.
However, will oven cleaner remove the old enamel paint or does anyone know of a better way?
TIA
Tom

Hey Tom, I just cleaned a set last night, (styrene figures) with oven cleaner, works great. I have heard of brake cleaner but have never used it before. Being meatal, I doubt it would hurt the figure but I'd wait for some more reply's for that.

Hi Bob,
I've used the oven cleaner method before, but never on paint this old, and I'm wondering if there's a better method.
I'm soaking one overnight and see whats happened on the morn.

there is no way to hurt pot metal with chemical solvents.
-- edit to add, except for muriatic acid, that would be bad.
Hard to think of anything commercial more aggressive than oven cleaner. It's very much like paint strippers marketed to the hobby community, except with a very strong (and unhelpful) caustic soda component.
