Hi to you all.
Since I am new to this forum/site, let me introduce myself.
My name is René Snoek, i'm 49 years old (not yet showing) and I live in the Netherlands.
Since a couple of years (on and off)I am in the process of building a Bergepanther in the somewhat odd scale of 1/25.
Maybe later i can tell why I build in this scale, but for now I have a question; Is there, or are there line drawings available of the transmission of the panther tank, so i can try to build one for my model.
As soon as I can find out how, I will post some pictures of my progress so far.
regards René

Welcome to Armorama! I don't know about drawings, but you could always buy a 1:35 resin transmission (Tiger Model Design does one, see newtmd.com) and measure off it to scale up to 1:25 for your copy.

Thanks for the reply.
Yes I thought of that to, but to spent an rather large amound of cash on a model part that I don'have the intention of using on an actual model seems a bit of a waste.

Piotr, If Rene feels that paying $40+ for a 1/35 resin interior just to get the transmission in order to use it to scratch a 1/25 one, he'd be even less enthusiastic about shelling out over $200 for a Bandai kit for basically one part.

Hi Joseph and Piotr, I just was abouth thinking the same thing.
Funny thing is; I was not even aware that Bandai ever released a 1/24 scale Panther tank, so I went for a little search on the internet. And what do you think; one was for sale right here in Holland, but at a price of 350 euro I thought it was a bit overpriced. (marktplaats.nl Advertentie 629326909) I also learned that it's not the best of kits.
With fit and dimensional problems etc.
You see, new to Armorama and already learning something

I might have some photos and dimensions of the steering gear and gear box. If I find them, I'll send them to you. You'll need to break out a calculator and do some re-scaling of the photos to match the dimensions in 1:25 scale, though. It's not that hard; I've scratchbuilt a number of things using that method.

I don`t agree with You.
Yes, for sure spend money for 1-35, only for rescale is ridiculous if you`re 1-25 scale fun and You have alternative in the form of even an imperfect 1-25 scale model.

The Bandai kit is basically crap and there are enough inaccuracies with the interior which would be reason enough not to buy it. It was crap when I bought one years ago for $27; now, it's overpriced crap being sold at over $200 on evilBay and other places. Again, it makes absolutely no sense to spend that kind of money for one inaccurate part. So, let's say Rene loses his mind and actually buys one for $200+. He finds that the steering unit and gearbox are pretty much as I described: junk. What's he going to do, perform major surgery by accurizing the parts which cost an arm and a leg to begin with? That's even worse than buying a 1/35 resin part to use as a reference to scratchbuild one in 1/25.

Since Rene obviously has the talent for scrachbuilding, it would be much cheaper, and smarter, to make one himself. Let some other sucker piss away good money on a bad kit.

I agree with You,
but other way if You do only 1-25 scale, everybody would like to have in his collection oldies models, remember that today they`re inaccurate.Hobbyist as a rule, pay more than the item is worth.

Rene, it look great, wait for next pics.
regards to all Piterpanzer
P.S. At last time i do test built of 1-25 scale turret to T34-76 112 zav.

Did you try contacting some museums? I would suggest the WTS in Koblenz (A "study collection" of the german armed forces), Munster, Saumur and Bovington. They all have running Panthers so they might have the plans and be willing to send photocopies.
