Hi,
Is there anything out there in 1/35th scale for post WWII British equipment & figures?
I'm not looking for modern stuff just yet (although I will be at a later date) but I am looking for 1958 pattern webbing equipment & other kit used between circa 1950 & 1980.
Also, what about figures around the same era?
Thanks for your help.

Joe.

How about the old Tamiya "British Stretcher Party". There's three guys standing, 60s-70s era, wearing web gear. I don't think they have any weapons, though.

Hi Joe,

i have the British Infantry 1944 Update set from Accurate Armour and you can use the parts for campaigns from WW2 to the 80´s like for Borneo, Malaya, Vietnam, Falkland etc. On the website you can read five sets but in my case there were 6 sets of fine Resin parts each very well detailed. You get 6x ammo pouches (for example FN FAL ammo), 6x rifle bandoliers (ww2 Enfield rifle), 6x bayonet in case, 6x Bergan rucksacks, 6x Bren tool carrier bag. I have bought it for my Vietnam SASR Figures to have some british bergans and ammo pouches. It is worth every cent.

Here is the review also done at armorama:

British Infantry Equipment

Also CallSign Models has a new conversion set on the market for Vietnam Aussie Infantry Early Vietnam 1965-66.

Aussie Infantry Early Vietnam conversion set 1965-66

Hope it helps

Hi Joe,

As stated the Tamiya Stretcher party have the correct 58 pattern webbing and ammo pouches but the water bottles are of the jungle kind, although these were worn by some.

The AA WW2 set mentioned could provide bergen's, and their modern set has sleeping bags and bed rolls (bedrolls came out in the 80s).

Don't know anyone who makes the respirator haversacks, but they should be available in some of the modern sets. No kidney pouches nor bum rolls but you could improvise there. BTW the DML British Infantry respirators are way to big for WW2 but might double for 1980 stuff?

Italeri did a set of modern light weapson Kit No 421. Been OOP for a while but you might still find a set. It contained SMGs and FNs (which could pass for SLRs), also a Milan set. No GPMG though but there should be one of those available in modern stuff too.

You'd have to do a bit of a mix and match.

There are MK III helmets and hornet do heads with modern berets too.

By the Mid 80s, the new kit was being tested so a lot would depend on exactly what time period you wanted to represent. The No 4 rifle was still being used as a Snipers rifle and the Bren Gun had morphed into the LMG with a straight magazine rather than a curved one. Bren guns would still have been around in the 50s as far as I know as would the No 4 Rifle.

Spades and Picks remained the same but I've never see any of the large packs, which were poor anyway.

Thanks for your replies!
To narrow the search down a bit I'm making the Tamiya SAS Pink Panther at the moment & would like to set it in Oman or Dhofar in the early 1970's.
The AA bergans actually look spot on. I think it might be called the WWII A Frame rucksack.
I checked out that Callsign Aussie stuff & that looks good too! Some of the stuff in there could be used.
I already have the SLR's from Firestorm.
It's just proving difficult trying to get the figures I'll be happy with. I usually only like to work with resin when it comes to figures. For me it is much easier to work with when doing a conversion, particularly when it comes to getting a driver for a vehicle.
Photographic evidence shows that the WWII SAS Windproof Smock was a very popular item. Looks like I will probably have to style one own using putty or something.
Anyway, as I said, thanks for your help.

Joe.

Hi Joe,

Then the jungle water bottles would be fine, wouldn't worry about the yoke: belt and ammo pouches and bandoliers would most probably do. The rest of the 58 pattern is unlikely to have been used. I'll see if I can find a few pics.

Thanks for the links!
Al, what a story! Best special forces in the world. Makes you proud to be British!
Paul, I've checked out Castoff & I'll be picking that set up very soon! Pity one cant enlarge the photo, though.
With this being a covert war would the Brit combatants have worn any type of Brit uniform?

Hi Joe,
well to answer your question, possibly yes as far as
the webbing goes. I´ve seen that stuff in all sorts
of "army and navy stores" and not only in the UK.
