Reading Vodnik's article on making an accurate M2A2 ODS, I couldn't tell exactly what needed removed on the hull sides to remove the flotation device. Am I correct that the raised edge just above the red lines here should be removed and sanded flush with the angles of the hull? This is just the first pic I found on google that showed what I wanted to ask about. I am going to use the Tamiya M2A2 ODS kit, not the original M2 kit.

I guess you're right. Here's the floatation device used on the earlier M2 :

Missed the part on the back hull for anyone using this as a guide in the future. Corrected:

Keep going, that flat part across the top-rear is also part of the flotation system

Actually, I may be wrong. The bump on the sides is supposed to be the actual swim barrier. The cover on the rear covers that barrier. It may be a permanant part of the vehicle and may remain even after all the fording gear is removed. I'm half dead with the flu right now and not thinking very clearly, sorry!

If you can spring for it, the Legend wheels and "detail set" add some nice details. The detail set especally covers the rear portion, adding the correct double plates behind the stowage boxes and other bits.
the wheels are a 200% improvement over the kit parts. I also recommend AFV Club "big foot" tracks (cheap, and VERY easy to use) if you are doing a later model, or try to find some early tracks from an Hobbyboss AAV kit if you need the earlier tracks.
good luck with your project!

Thanks...I do have the Legends update set but not the wheels. I'll have to pick up a set if they are that much better.

Do you happen to have a model number for those wheels Andy? Please?
