I'm currently building the Tamiya M113A2. I'm building it for the time frame around 95-99 at 3ID Fort Stewart. I was wondering about the anti-slip that would have been on it. I've searched around and from what I see on line is that some had it some didn't. It's kinda hard to tell from pictures but it looks like the whole top was anti-slip and some on the engine cover and around where the spare tracks where. Am I missing any other places?
Thanks
Mark

I think the anti slip was something added to older vehicles if they were repainted or refurbished - like an older one that went from MERCD to NATO Tri-color. The new ones that come from the factory already painted in tricolor seem to all have it.
The best guideline I can find seems to be that if its in CARC paint (tricolor, or desert sand) them it gets some anti-slip grit added to the epoxy like CARC paint, but anything in older colors - MERCD, MASSTER or before doesn't get anti-slip
It looks like there are no cleanly defined edges of the areas of anti slip, and besides the top surface, the front port side used to climb to the drivers hatch gets anti slip.
Remember the fording pane is just plywood with flimsily aluminum edges so its not strong enough to climb on. Also, rennet that the CARC paint is some tough stuff and doesn't fade or wear like old enamel paint used in MERCD or before.
I'm anxious to see your build! I just did one, used Eduard PE, Archer dry transfers for all the internal labels and things.
I was surprised at the last show that mine was the only M113 there. They are fun and scream out for lots of interior opportunities.

Thanks for the reply. I've started taping up all the stuff that doesn't get anti slip, it's a lot of taping but it will be worth it in the end. I'm not really going for an all out build on this one. Pretty much a simple out of box build before I start aired detailed project. I'll do custom bumper numbers and unit other than that out of the box.

MArk,
I was on several M113A2s in the late 80's (194th SAB at FT Knox) as well as the mid 90's (Live Fire, NTC) and I can say that none of the ones that I was on had any anti-skid paint on them... I had two M113s at NTC at the same time frame that you are building yours. The first predated my arrival and was probably a "draw lot vehicle" from the 80's while the second one was an ex 40ID/CAARNG vehicle.
Ahh, those days of a misspent youth.
