One source I read on the Archer said that since the gun recoiled into the driver's space, he had to exit the vehicle during any action (probably doubling as an ammo passer). Another source was completely contradictory stating he remained in position in case of a neccessary get-away. Can anyone confirm either of the above?

Such a specific question may not get an answer in less than a day!

Especially the title of the thread.

What! Nobody knows??

Give us a chance, old boy, I only just finished my supper!

I dug out my Archer drawings and the recoil guard & spent shell catcher ends about 5-6" shy of the back of the driver's seat. It is perfectly possible to sit in the driver's seat in anticipation of having to scarper when in combat.

Wouldn't want to do it, of course, but it's very possible. And, given the fact that the other choice is to be blown up by an enemy tank or infantry squad, I think I'd probably sit there meself, if those were the choices on offer...

Thanks Paul. I was planning a dio with Bronco's Archer and wanted to know if I should place the driver in his seat during an action, or if he would be handling ammo. Both sources I researched gave conflicting results.

If the Archer was firing in direct fire combat (as opposed to being used indirect as artillery (which I'm not sure they ever were), then yeah, if there was a risk of being interdicted by the enemy, there would probably be someone in the seat ready to bugger off.
