OK, weird. I can edit the second list but not the original one. I'll add the Challenger 2 and the items from your second list. Thanks!

I will wait a little and then copy/update the list again. I guess I am limited to editing an existing list only for a set amount of time before the Edit function disappears.

Sir Richard Dannatt wanted tanks to be deployed on the Helmand front

The head of the Army, General Sir Richard Dannatt, asked the Ministry of Defence to deploy Challenger Two tanks – acknowledged as one of the best weapons in Britain's armoury – in Afghanistan two years ago, military sources have claimed.
Despite his request, the Government decided the terrain in Afghanistan was not suitable for the Challenger.

The 'Wolfhound' is in service in the Ghan' as is Foxhound (Ocelot).

Hi all,

Apologies if this is already being discussed but I can't find anyway to search the forums without trawling through.

So...what vehicles currently serving in Afghanistan are available in 1/35 form?

Chris

Do you mean in this moment in 2013 ?

As you certainly know, several armies have began their departure.

So It is difficult to know exactly which vehicles are still presents.

Especially that this phase is little even mediatized.

From OC Role 2E direct to me. Cr 2 stayed on camp to provide point defence and did not depl OTW. I asked him if he was sure they were Cr 2 and not Scimitar or something else. He gave me that withering look perfected by British Army Colonels, and said "I do believe I know the difference between a Challenger and a Scimitar"

With NO disrespect to your good self, he is 'nut's... All the upgrades to Challenger 2 tanks carried out in 2008 were done in Iraq.... All Challengers withdrawn from Iraq were returned to the UK.

Only the Combat Support vehicles based on the Challenger 2 have been deployed to Operation Herrick (Afghanistan) such as the CRARRV TROJAN and TITAN Armoured Vehicle Launch Bridge and this was during the 2010 Operation Moshtarak.

Just to be clear here with the Challenger 2. Afghanistan debate.

I sent an email to a friend of mine, Lord Astor of Hever, who happens to be an ex officer from my old regiment and is presently the Parliamentary Under-Secretary (Ministry of Defence) a role he took over in 2010.

I asked him if he could research the question of any Challenger 2 MBT's ever being sent to Afghanistan, be it for deployment, trials or testing of or for suitability prior to a possible involment.

Here is what I asked and what he said in his reply.

Sent: Tuesday, May 14, 2013 08:37 PM
To: ASTOR, J Lord
Subject: Challenger 2 Question.

Dear Lord Astor.

Hello Sir, I hope this note finds you and your family in fine health and good spirits.

May I ask if you could find out if ANY Challenger 2 Main Battle Tanks were sent to Afghanistan? Particularly during 2008.

To the best of my knowledge Challenger 2's were only deployed to Iraq and not Afghanistan. Not even for trials..

I do hope you might be able to make an enquiry through your channels and see if I am correct or not.

Many thanks.

Keith.

The Reply.

Dear Keith.

It was decided by the MoD and others not to deploy the Challenger two to Afghanistan for multiple reasons that I cannot and won't discuss here.
However to answer your query, you are correct, no Challenger Two tanks have ever been sent to Afghanistan

JJ. Astor.

IVECO Panther (Italeri- coming soon)

The british Panther 4x4 is not manufactured by IVECO.

There is not any IVECO marking on the vehicle.

It is build under license by BAE Systems.
