Hi,
I'm going to be building an Accurate Armour Land Rover Defender XD Wolf TUM GS (#LR004) in 1/35th soon. It is the 90" wheel base with hard top also being the winterised/waterised version & I wanted to paint it in the typical green/black camouflage of the British Military.
I was wondering about the right type of paint colours to use.
Can anybody give me a heads up on the colour combinations to use & from which manufacturer, please?
Thanks for your help.

I'm pretty sure the standard Brit green is a NATO standard colour so Tamiya's NATO Green and NATO Black should do the trick.

I have built a number of Land Rover Defender Wolf 110,s and for the Black & Green Camo scheme i use Tamiya paints Nato Black & Field Grey which is a closer Green than Nato Green and looks more like a vehicle that is in use and not a brand new vehicle .
Hope this helps . Neil

I must say that if you painted a model following this example could you enter it into a competition and win? ......Despite repeated attempts Cheffy's 50 Shades of patch painted Defender should appear but the interent gods are not playing fair!

If you are ex-military then you won't bat an eyelid, I painted a Landie and the NATO black dried gloss, did I repaint it? Err No!

I love how the Defender painted in regulation colour has been patched painted with a regulation colour and the patches look completely different than the body, yet the same as each other.

I also notice the the aft face of the differential ius paionted white.

a) is that common on Brit softskins?

and

b) is it for convoy following at night like it was in WW II?

and

c) is there a little light down there to illuminate the white patch like there used to be?

the paint normaly on the rovers is a resin based paint,
the patch paint issued for vehicles comes in a 2 part mixer that is very exspensive.
the QM hates spending to much on paint from his budget, so orders the cheaper normal green paint to patch paint the vehicles,
also the lads do not follow instructions very well,
so you have varing tones of the paint from not being stired to thined to much.

the answer for the three questions
the diff is painted white for the convoy light mounted just in front of the fuel tank shining down onto the diff.
and yes to the WW2 question

Thanks very much for your replies & photos. They've been a great help.
I just checked my paint stash & found that I already have Tamiya field grey & NATO back!
No shelling out for those then!
The photos are a great reference. Thanks Neil! The actual model I'll be soon building is shown in one of the above pics. Excellent!

I realize you have already picked your colours, but for those of us who still cling to our enamel based paints, White Ensign models has ARB 06 Modern British Army Green and ARB 16 Blue/Black Disruptive Camo; cannot get much more specific than that! HUMBROL'S 33 Black can be used with 86 Lt. Olive, 102 Army Green and 163 Dk. Green (RAF Green); trying to find the proper green is like trying to find the proper U.S. Olive Drab!
