Announced today
Quote
Dear Valued Partner,

I am writing to inform you about changes that are taking place at the
Testor Corporation. For over 80 years, we have provided premium paints and
finishing systems to the craft and hobby industry. Today, we announced that
we are transforming our business in order to more effectively address the
changing needs of our consumers and their interests.

We've made the decision to exit the following businesses within the Testor
Brand family - Pactra, Floquil, Polyscale, and ColorArtz. This will
enable the Testor Corporation to return to our foundation of success -
providing premium, innovative product that inspires creativity. We will
continue to accept orders and ship product for a limited time based on
available quantities.

Going forward, the following brands will be critical to our success and
development - Testor, Model Master, and Aztek. These brands will be
infused with marketing support, innovation and operational efficiencies.

In support of this, we have announced a consolidation of operations at our
Rockford facilities. Over the next several months we will provide updates
critical to your order and delivery needs as well as product availability.
We assure you there will be no disruption to service during this transition.

Our commitment to the Testor brand has never been stronger. By implementing
these changes, and the ability to leverage all of Rust-Oleum's world class
services, we are more strongly poised to take your business to the next
level through product and merchandising innovations, and increased customer
intimacy. Please contact me or your sales manager directly with any
questions.

We appreciate your business!

Best Regards,

Kristin J. Schiro

That letter reeks of corporate manure shoveling-
"infused with innovation", "increased customer intimacy" -
it's such balderdash, I can hardly believe it's real.
Anyway, it's too bad. I always thought the Polyscale line was excellent .

My sleepy lhs has just started to empty their warehouse of Testors' paints. There isn't much of a selection for PolyS and Floquil, but the Testors paints are full. For some reason, they just decided to start selling Testors Dull-Coat.

Yes JCLAPP you called that one right. What a bs letter...one that normally comes with pink slips. Corporate manure shoveling is correct. Why do suits think that dishonest words like this will help their cause? I for one am tired of the spin crap. Just give customers the bottom line without the crap.

The only constant is change...

I loved Pactra back in the day, and must have squirted gallons of their flat military colors back in the 70's, but then they went the way of the dodo...

At one time I was a great fan of Floquil in the 80's and early 90's, back when they still used Diosol as a thinner and when they came out with a (very short lived) branch line of AFV colors, I thought I was in haven. Alas, they were soon bought out by... Testors(!) and their wonderful military colors and Diosol went the way of the dodo, too.

Paint brands come, and paint brands go...

Just when you think you've finally cracked the code on application techniques and methods and have decided that what you're using at the moment is "your favorite brand and formula," that's just when things are sure to change.

Anyways, the most interesting tidbit in the quoted passage was the reference to Rust-Oleum. Who knew? I guess it won't be long before we see their logo somewhere on the Testor's paint bottles.

The big fish will ever gobble up the little fish until they themselves get gobbled up by yet bigger fish or they get too bloated and die from their own corpulence. I suppose it's a small blessing that Testor's themselves are not folding up their tent and going the way of the dodo.
