There's a lot of very cool british kits around these days...
There's the AFV Dorchester, all those extremely nice Mirror kits there and to come, some really nice IBG offerings...and a nice Universal Carrier...

And a lot more British to come, very, very nice indeed!

I would like to finish them being in Italy.

What would be the camo patterns there? What are the colors used?
I've been googling a lot, but results are confusing...

Also, if the Brits "borrowed" vehicles down there (like that nice bronco Fiat small thing), what would they have been painted like?

And last but not least, what acrylic paint would do the job?

H.

Hi Harald,

From around 10th April 43 Light Mud with a Blue-Black disruptor was used. In practice Greens 6A and 7 along with Dark Brown 1A were all used too. A XIII Corps directive at the time also stated that the camo scheme was to be used on all vehicles and the front and back of 25pdr gun shields. This would infer that all vehicles and not just tactical vehicles were to have the basic scheme but pics exist of B Vehicles in Light Mud only. Under shading in white was still to be applied so there is quite a lot of choice with Light Mud as the basic colour.

Vehicles arriving in theater in UK colours were to have Light Mud only painted over the existing paint.

Dick Taylor's Warpaint Vol 2 covers this period, so would be a good investment

The schemes changes again in 1944/45. Sheik is a good example there

In truth there appears to have been quite a mix of schemes going on.

I put a link into Mike Starmer's Painting Mixes over on SMW a while back. The original posts were on ML but I linked them all through one thread in the Hints and Tips section.

You should find most if not all you need there,

Cheers
