well have started to look for references for the StuG III ausf.e (building the orange top cyber hobby kit). does anyone know

1) how much extra track the kit has (it has indi link) as I like adding spare all over the place
2) if the kit has spare road wheels (I can check later when i get home of course) and if it doesn't which spare road wheels would be appropriate (I have a couple of nice shots of them mounted in various positions (like vertical up the side)

am also after good photos of

1) the interior - none supplied but may have a play at scratching basics???
2) photos of damage - after am sure i have seen a photo of a stug with a replacement fender from floor boards - would that've been done (LOTS without fenders at the front so might go with that but am sure I saw one some place where the crew had made up one from wooden boards
3) any other StuG photos of interesting things (rear stowage especially)

thanks guys

Hi Rob,

Not too many extra track links -- between 10 and 20 (tops). Please bear in mind that the Magic Tracks for Pz.III/IV have nasty little pin marks on the inner side of every track -- two of them on each side of the guiding horn. I saw this on my StuG III a bit too late If you can find them, I wholeheartedly recommend you the 40cm plastic tracks of Tristar, I'm very happy with them, they're a great replacement of the MT's, even though you have to cut them off the sprues. And then of course there's ModelKasten and the metal ones.

I believe there should be a pair of extra road wheels, hope I remember right. As there was no standard regulation exactly what constitutes a spare roadwheel, you can either use the spares (no axle semi-globular cover), or just a normal roadwheel (with the cover). I've seen plenty of both pictured.

On the interior -- essentially it is the same as the previous version C/D with the exception of having two sets of radios, on both sides of the fighting compartment. The addition of the armored radio boxes on both sides of the superstructure is the main visual difference -- with the respective equipment inside. Ausf. E's were initially supposed to serve as Commander vehicles but later for production simplicity they continued making them for regular crew use as well.

Hope this helps

Hi Robert,
PM your email and home address. I get some stuff scanned
for you and you can have a copy Waffen Arsenal - Deutsche Sturmgeschuetze im Einsatz, which I happen to have twice.

Now then, can anyone confirm the correct AM road wheels for the ausf e ? Found a pic of one (admitedly a b) with at least 3 per side on top of the 2 at the rear so after 4 or 6 spares...

an alternative thought, how about german crew salvaging bits off other german/russian tanks as extra armour - extra weight without being able to use the parts I guess but desperate times.....

if i went down this route what Russian tanks should I be looking at at the start of Barbarossa... something that would be encountered and could be raided for extra armour.....

qq... ok the StuG is ongoing, want to leave the front of one of the fenders off completely (back to the first horizontal strut).. now the fender itself has a vertical "side" where it goes from horizontal to diagonal (ie the front diagonal plate). Should I put this vertical piece on to the hull-side if I remove the fender or is it is all one thing (i have a couple of pics but I cant work out on any of them if this vertical "plate" is on the kit or on the real thing...

TIA
