I'm just starting up the Trumpeter BTR-60PB that will end up being marked with some Bison decals as a Soviet Naval Infantry vehicle. I thought it would be really cool to build the BTR with the trim vane extended and the rear water jet cover open as if the BTR had just pulled out of the water on a beach landing. Obviously that means the bottom half or so of the BTR will be "wet". Has anyone tried a similar effect? I've got a couple ideas in my head but I want to see what other people have tried before I start experimenting.

The wet area will need to be painted a darker version of the base color. You'll want to gloss this over and keep weathering to a minimum. Get some water effects, Woodland Scenics, Vallejo and others make a a paste like a thick Elmer's Glue to add drips and texture to the sides and bottom. . You can build this up at the water jet. Envirotex or other clear resin can be the main water and you can create a wake with cotton from a cotton ball soaked in the water effects and again build this up.

I never would have thought of painting the lower half a darker color, great tip. A clarification, I'm building it as if it has just driven up on the beach, completely out of water. I should mentioned that.

Sorry I have not tried it, but I think that having in mind the darkening effect of gloss varnish, maybe it will not be necessary a darker base paint colour if you use a flat (matt) varnish on the "dry" top of the BTR and a gloss one on the "wet" bottom. Maybe it would work even with satin finish on the dry areas.
Have you noticed how easy is it for me to say "maybe"???
