Hi, what are the main differences between Late and early BTR-70 and which one was used in the Soviet Afghan war.

As best I can tell the late BTR-70 has 2 added MG ports on each side along the top edge of the hull and an added periscope in the turret. Both versions were used in Afghanistan.
The BMP-1P saw action in Afghanistan, both wars in Chechnya, and in South Ossetia.
