Well, you are wrong This is US Marines truck as used in Zakhu in northern Iraq in April 1991 during Operation Provide Comfort.

Couple of questions, and I hope that they aren't being repeated...

A) Where'd you get the yellow 'plate' decals?

B) Is the M2 locked in it's traveling position?

You'd better keep that one away from the wimmin!

I printed the black outline rectangles and "text" inside on a clear decal paper on a laser printer and then applied this decal over a yellow decal rectangle, cut from some old aircraft decal.




OK, you got me... I have no idea what is the traveling position for M2. I put it the way I saw it on many pictures.

where did you get those tires from because the tires that come with the kit are so not like the ones you get in the kit

That's correct. There are some more: CMK, Hobby Fan and Ordnance Models to name a few. Mine were CAM resin, but they required some work with a file as the original shape was not perfect (almost rectangle in cross section). I wrote a review of two of wheel sets (CMK and CAM), you can read it here: http://vodnik.net/index_rv.htm. I will add Ordnance Models wheels to this review soon, but these are OOP now - I got them from the clearance sale at Accurate Armour.

USMC trucks in Zakhu in 1991 were used mainly for transporting humanitarian aid packages for refugees - this means a lot of identical boxes (booooring) or just for patrols, with several armed Marines riding on the back. Let's say that my truck will soon leave for another patrol. I will probably add a figure or two later, but they will be standing next to the truck.

Oh wow... That's one heck of M923... I like the tarp on the cab...how you done it? and your weathering is just perfect. (hands clapping)

I guess you mean the tarp on the first support bow on cargo bed, as there is actually no tarpauline on the cab itself. It was made from a piece of metal foil (probably aluminum - from wine bottle). I cut it to shape, punched holes using Historex punch&die set and then bent it to the right shape you see on photos. Then I airbrushed it with Revell enamel paint, let it dry, then handbrushed it with Future. Once Future was completely cured I applied a darker wash of diluted artist oil paints, and drybrushed it with Revell paint lightened slightly with white oil paint. I added the "window" cover (painted the same way as the rest of the tarp). Last step was to airbrush Testors Dull Cote to make it all flat again. I attached it to the bow with black thread.
