Since no one seems to be paying attention to the tacked MATV thread, here are some pictures of SOCOM MATVs in camo. First I've seen this done. These are two different vehicles.

Looks like an RG-31 possibly there to the left in the same pattern. Thanks for sharing that.

That paint looks to be the same shade used on the camo ANA HHMWVs.

I'm getting more of the RG-31 and the MATV's and GMV's. Turns out they are older RG's, the short ones made in 1/35th by Kinetic. They are upgraded with the TAC-4 suspension and CROWS II. Also looks like a friend of mine downrange right now might have fallen in on the same vehicles for his mission so I might be able to get some more pictures. If you guys like I can post them in here unless there is a more appropriate place.

Those old RG-31s that have been refitted with the ISS are pretty beastly.

BAE also marketed new production vehicles with the TAK-4, called the RG-31 Mk5EM (Enhanced Mobility; not to be confused with the longer wheel base "extended" Mk5Es). The US military bought some number of these, where they were also referred to as the RG-31A3. BAE now offers a variant with an AxelTech 4500 series ISS, the Mk5EHM.

Thanks for the pics Steve. I bet if someone entered a camo MATV in a show there would surely be a judge who would say "they were never in camouflage like that!"
Nice Trebuchet?! For lobbing holy hand grenades?

Love the photos. Although several things pointed to the fact that they were SF dudes, the Ranger panties clinched it. My guess is 20th Group. Does your friend know? And by the way, this puts to rest the erroneous posts that the Army no longer allows GMV's. 10th Group sure has a bunch of newer ones. I have a "feeling" we'll see them and other SOCOM MRAPs this year.

These pictures came I'm an 11B who was part of their support/security element. I'll find out what group and where. He did say the Trebuchet was doen by an 18C with a penchant for carpentry. This was Paktia last year.

I have a buddy in EOD who is doing direct support with SOF and he sent me a picture a couple days ago from Afghanistan rolling in GMVs. Didn't ask the group though.

I never understood the love of ranger panties myself.

Thank you for the pictures, Steve. The camo'ed M-ATV looks awesome indeed!

Now a slightly off topic question, can anybody explain to me where the horse's/unicorn's head fad came from? I'm referring to the last (quite hilarious) picture.

Oh, btw, look what I've found on DVIDS a few days ago:

Cheers

P.s.: All the best to your friend!

ISS is "Independent Suspension System." The MRAP program office instituted a plan to refit all of them with ISS a few years ago after the success of the M-ATV and the overall failure of previous efforts to improve offroad mobility (like the MRAP II program). The replacement suspension kits vary from type to type, but a common one used on many is Oshkosh's TAK-4, which I believe is used on the M-ATV, as well as on other existing MRAP types.

You can read my writeup of this here (its a little dated, I haven't had a chance to update it and there have been new developments): http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ground/mrap-iss.htm

Oshkosh now has a separate page on the TAK-4 too: http://www.oshkoshdefense.com/tak-4
