Lesser known T26 Sterling prototype 8X8 tank transporter. Decided to tackle this huge project. I will fully scratch built this in 1/35 with no time frame set for dead lines.
The chassis:

Started on the Timken 77 transfer case...... needs more bolts and finishing details but the whole structure is complete.

All reference is taken from Tony Gibbs book. The only reference for this build!

I know this is only distantly related to the topic. However I also sent up a small trial balloon on the possibility of modeling the Sterling in 1/35th from Dragon Wagon and High Speed Tractor parts:
Here is a revised and shortened chain drive set plus scratch built leaf spring to represent one of the front drive suspension units on the Sterling.

I also used the Tony Gibbs book on the Sterling for all my reference.

I'll definitely be watching this. Any pictures of the real deal?
I do some 3D design work. Message me for more info on what I'm doing or have done. Inquire about a product catalog.

I recommend Tony Gibbs' definitive work on the T26 Sterling:

Hi Micheal, how is your progress with your T-26? Very good start on the leaf spring and chain drive. I'm looking to scratch built one but to time consuming. Are you able to cast it by any means? Ralph (Mech) is doing one also and I have sent him the plans.
Ralph, How is your build?
Michael and Ralph, hope you guys are in good progress on this. It will be great if we can re-start this build here and do a build log on your progress.

Well Hello there!
I checked this thread just the other day with hopes that you might have posted some progress photos. I'm afraid I have been waiting for your build shotsI
Myself I have been side tracked on and off over the last 18 months with health issues. I told myself I just was not ready to take on a project of such magnitude.
Your work on the Sterling inspired me however to build several smaller projects of my own. I came away from your posts needing to build, of all things, a transfer case!
I had been highly disappointed with the drivetrains that came with the large MAZ trucks of a few years ago, so thanks to you I got busy!

Your posts truly did inspire my smaller builds but sadly, nothing more accomplished on the Sterling!

Hi Val and Mike
I found this on the internet a long time ago and forgot about it until I saw this post again,
I think this guy scratch built it in 1/12 scale and R/C controlled.
Have a look at this site.https://www.rctankwarfare.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1255
Cheers,
Ralph

I just stumbled across these at Shapeways and thought about your project. They look like just what you need.
Here is the link to them. They look really nice. The same designer also has some other Dragon Wagon parts and parts for other vehicles listed.

Use
fusee chain for the chain drives.

Fusee chains were/are used to power clock and watch movements. They are the same as mc drive and bike chains in construction, only in extreme miniature form. Buying some broken chains is a lot cheaper than purchasing multiple aftermarket motorcycle drive chain sets; and, they're already assembled. All you need to do is connect the ends.
