Fantastic revue, Well Done and this type of kit revue is a real Plus. and im sure the kit makers are very happy.
The kit looks Outstanding and is going too be a great addition too any collection, altho there is No Engine included in the kit, im sure one of the AM people will come up with one.
The curved PE part is the Intake Screen for the Broad M Wading kit thats used for Fording Water Barriers.

This looks a very promising first release from Xact, with great detail imparted to those vinyl tracks. While I usually prefer plastic or metal tracks these look very useable. I also like the look of the tow cable material which from your images looks very good. The shaped photo etched part adds a final nice piece of bling to the kit, and if competitively priced this could be a real stepping stone for them.

Great review Jim!!!
Some parts look awsome.
The turret shape seems to really have got it, mainly the back of it!
The vinyl tracks have an incredible level of detail being of this material, and the pre-shaped PE looks like a great addition.
Still don´t like the front part of the turret roof, but you cannot have everything...
A wonderful kit it seems (did this sound like Yoda?)
And just FYI its on Pre-order at Hobbyeasy :

Thanks guys. It does look like it will build into a highly detailed model. Pacific Coast is also doing pre-orders and their price appears to be competitive with HE. http://www.pacmodelscatalog.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=PCM&Product_Code=XS+35001&Category_Code=XSARM+135

Nice review! The kit looks great and i have it on the wish list. Not a fan of the tracks at all! Not knowing about the tanks performance on the battle field and being relegated to behind the lines duty, it kinda turns me off to wanting to build this tank. But seeing the review and im impressed with the overall quality and detail of the kit, it has me chomping at the bit to see what comes up next from them. Great Job Jim....as usual. Thanks!

Thank you for the excellent review. Nice, crisp details. I'm not big on rubber tracks, either. And, I would definitely have to buy a turned barrel. I think I will keep the lid on my mason jar, until there is a build review.

Thank you for the review, Jim. Sorry the box was not packed well and some damage occurred. I was too hurried to send it out so I just found a box that could fitted it in and sent it off. The actual shipping of the kits will be in a double layers cardboard box so damages should be prevented. I also apologise not leaving a note of some sort in the box.
Yes, this is Edward Shen, and you can consider me as the spoke person for Xact Scale. I promised to communicate with modellers here at Armorama and it's better late then never.
I did learned about some fierce discussions on the turret front armour fill areas. Whether they should be raise, levelled or recessed. My research team found all three variants on their materials. I was the guilty one if it is wrong to have the two armour plate slightly raise. I figured that it's easier to convert them to level or recess from raised instead of other wise. In our research, we found that each T-80 is like a individual handicraft for they have so many different variations regarding the casting texture and weld beads. We just went with most common ones.
We had quite a few discussion on whether we should do one piece, link by link or links and segments tracks. Eventually I decided to go with one piece tracks as long as we can obtain the same level of detail and the material we use can be assemble and paint with regular modelling glue and paint for it's much easier to build. Another reason is there bound to be some after market products for those who want real metal links track.
Lastly, the one piece gun barrel is a trail in new injection technology. I though to replicate the gun barrel and the barrel jacket in turn metal and metal parts could be quite complicated while the designer would really like to proof that he can replicate a round and straight gun barrel with one piece injection part. So I agreed. I do believe everyone should have a part of the ownership of the process.
Now that the kit is launched, I look forward to your comments and criticism. Kind words are great but they will not help us grow. Be critical with the kit and that's the only way for us to improve.
Next will be the Russian Tiger. Me and my team is working really hard to bring the kit to even higher standard and when it launches, I am sure it will generate a great amount of discussions again for there is a kit in the market to compare with.
Anyway, keep building and enjoy the great hobby.

Thank you for taking the time to share with us.. I hope you keep this interest up in the future
I was wondering about something.. in the very first test shot there was a figure sitting on the gun barrel, and everyone was saying that it would be included with the kit. Did you decide against including it... or was it not to be included to begin with?
Thanks again
Hisham

Edward -
It is always encouraging to see participation from a manufacturer with the modeling community. I have seen many great collaborations when this occurs. Those manufacturers alwayws garner a warm reception from modelers, even if the input is, shall we say, enthusiastic. I'd also argue that they end up far better off than those manufacturers (who aren't hard to think of) that seem to take a more closed off approach.
Your kit looks superb, and is one that I'm sure many of us will be purchasing and building very soon!
The Tiger is an interesting choice, but I for one will look forward to more T-80 variants (both early and late), and hope that you'll look to other Russian subjects, not just off the T-80 chassis, but beyond!
Many thanks for your comments and participation, and we look forward to your ongoing participation here!

Hi Everybody;
Mr. Shen; First let me say Congrats, on this superb kit.
I think everybody will enjoy building this kit, and that it will be a nice addition too there collection.
My first thought on this is that there is a reference too a Engine, and i think some are thinking that its included in the kit.? Other than that, it looks Fantastic.
Im looking Forward too the T-84 also, and if its as nice as the T-80 it should be a top seller. How about a T-80 W/ the Arena System !

First thanks Jim for the review: really excellent.
Second: Edward thanks for this kit that looks very very nice. I hopes it have accurate dimensions.
Lot of modellers don't like links by links tracks and we have resin/metal workable tracks on the market so it's fair for everyone.
I likes the "one part" plastic barrel, if it's accurate no need for turned metal one.
I thinks the old kits + resin conversions i owns have no future, now i can have a nice T80 from the box without too much work.
I'm in too for a T80UM1 snow leopard!
Regards
SH

This looks to be a must-have for me!! Pre-ordering one right now.
Pardon my ignorance, but what is a "Russian Tiger" tank? A Google search only turns up photos of WW2 Tigers. Aother poster mentions a forthcoming T-84...a Ukranian product...

"Russian Tiger" is not a tank, but a high mobility wheeled vehicle.

Thanks for the info Hugo! So Xact and Meng are making kits of the same thing? Seems risky for two new, relatively small companies.
With this and the Meng T-90, I'll be getting my Russian armor on!

Edward, Thank You for dropping in on this discussion. My T-80 is on its way from Hong Kong as I write this. I'm looking forward to receiving it and have one question:
Can you please provide a reference photo of the raised turret fill? You mention your research team found three (3) types, and I have only seen the recessed type which includes being on an actual tank on display.
Thanks.

Sorry for being so late. Here are a few shots which made us thought that raised turret fill existed.(Please check my photos)
