I would like to see some of the old Dragon stugs, with the 7.5 cm StuK 40 L/48 re-tooled. I know Tamiya has a new one out, but I enjoy the Dragon engineering. From what I have encountered, the older Dragon kits aren't worth the price. That is, unless you enjoy poor fit and scratch building most of the kit. Perhaps even a Trumpeter kit(hopefully accurate).

Don't you mean early StuG's with short barrel 75mm? Dragon has several excellent (my opinion) recent releases of various 75/L48 versions with and without zimm.

I have not seen any release, with the short barrel. They are all Imperial series or Orange Box kits. Which ones are you referring to?

Maybe you were`nt clear enough for me. I thought you were referring to long-barrelled StuK 40 L/48 retooling, and not short barrel early StuG`s.

Yes, I mean the short barrel. Wikipedia listed the 7.5 cm StuK 40 L/48 as being the short barrel.

@Matt;

I think I detect a bit of under-whelmedness feeling from you regarding those elderly early StuG kits Dragon / Cyberhobby has around! Me, too, friend, me too!

BUT... As there is a new StuG III F/8 coming our way, and the recent F/8 late-production with winterketten out and about... all is not lost!

I think one could use the new F/8 kits with some detail mods to get the right hull and casemate and road gear for an earlier StuG, and mate it up with the not completely bad short L/24 gun from one of those old early kits to get a mostly nice short-gun type...

Of course, as the D HAS put out those F/8 kits... D has the correct general casemate and hull and great detailed running-gear on hand... and needs only tool up a few smallish bits - new early tranny-cover, sponson-boxes, boxed head-lamps, new antennae-troughs, etc., to get the stuff needed for the early type(s). Oh, and I suppose a new - tool L/24 for a StuG wouldn't be a-miss!

So, I'll bet that D has a shortie coming out somewhere in the not so distant future!

And whenever this happens, you can bet I'll be buying one (or more)!

Bob

That's great news! I have no problems, with am parts. I just swore off the Imperial and Dragon Shanghai series. Of course, this includes all of CB's Orange Box kits. I think I will be buying Tamiya's new stug. It is nice to have a shake n bake kit, every so often.
