Got the "bug" to build a T-62, probably in a middle eastern paint scheme. I know that the Tamiya kit is alittle outdated. Are there any newer decent kits of it out there?

Not to mention that it barely looks like a T-62. Trumpeter has several T-62's that are light years ahead of the Tamiya. These two should be of interest to you:

The trumpeter kits are AWESOME!!!!!!!! I have one in the cold War Campaign and it was great to build. The individual track link are great because they need little clean up. The only thing you would need to do is add the fuel tank plumbing as I did. Have fun with it.

I've just finished Trumpeter's T-62 1972 with ERA. It's a nice kit, but I found the turret ERA fittings to be needlessly complex and a little frustrating, so you might prefer one of their earlier versions. There is one that includes decals for a tank in Syrian service.

I have been trying to find out which T-62 is in Syrian service but haven't had much luck any help would be greatly appreciated.
Happy modeling

The one you want is Trumpeter' T-62M, number 377. Scalehobbyist has it in stock for $31.79, plus shipping.

Bob, Any of the Trumpeter's kit , all lightyears ahead of Tamyia's.
For some middle eastern versions, get the T-62 Mod.1962 or T-62 Mod 1972.

That's not an M, just a 1972 model. The M has add-on armor(most of the time).

I built the T-62 1972 mod and added the T-62M conversion from legend. Both went together great. I don't remember any issues with the trump kit.

That Trumpeter T-62M kit is exactly what I was looking for. Syrian markings will also fit the bill. Thanks a bunch for the info guys, greatly appreciated!

If you like T-62s, I heartily agree with all the other answers that you've received in this forum- You CAN'T go wrong with the TRUMPETER T-62s. You'll also be able to build several different versions besides the 3 or 4 kits that TRUMPETER already offers.
If you decide that you'd like to build some of the later "built-for-export 'Monkey Models'" that the Soviets sold to many different nations world-wide, LEGEND, MINIARM and PANZERSHOP make ALL KINDS of GREAT resin conversion kits for the T-62... LEGEND, MINIARM and PANZERSHOP also make some really interesting conversions for other Soviet tanks- T-54/55s, T-62s, T-64s, T-72s, T-80s, T-90s, the various BTRs, BMPs, ASUs, BRDMs, etc...
I CANNOT RECOMMEND the VERLINDEN T-62 Resin Upgrade because it is designed for the bad old TAMIYA T-62, which you don't want in the first place. You'd be wasting your money, because this VERLINDEN "upgrade" isn't much of an improvement over the base TAMIYA T-62 kit. The main parts of the "UPGRADE" (Turret and Main Gun) are just COPIES of the original plastic kit parts. So why would you want to replace "wrong" plastic parts with "wrong" resin parts?
If your local hobby shop doesn't carry LEGEND, MINIARM or PANZERSHOP products, you can find them easily enough on eBay...

Just beware that the Trumpeter T-62M (a nice kit, BTW) is not appropriate for a Yom Kippur War tank. Instead, it is more suited for a Syrian tank during the 1982 invasion of Lebanon. Steven Zaloga's Concord book "T-54 T-55 T-62" book has a photo that matches the Trumpeter kit down to the turret markings and tracks.

Thanks a lot for the input Guys. So I guess to build a better Syrian type would be to get the T-62 earlier model. Well look out Ebay, here I come-
