I've seen some of you with very nice banners for your selected link. Does anyone want to help me design a new banner for the motor pool? I originally chose a bright one since it would stand out more. That way I could quickly determine if I had already posted a reply as I scrolled though the posts.

Since I no longer post responses as often as I used to, I don't need one quite so obtuse. In other words, something smaller and not as gaudy. I was trying myself, but many of you have really professional looking ones. Any help will be appreciated.

Rob I think that your banner has actually become a brand!!! I'm not that good in design but here there are some true artists. What I think is to keep the colors as they are, reduce the horizontal size of the banner and add some animation to it. If you are not in a hurry I'd be pleased to submit a new idea in a few days...

One word - Photoshop.
More words, advanced image editing. (or, really fancy digital compositing) :-)

For example, in my sig (as you see below) I used a total of two existing pictures.

Picture one - Yoda catching lightning from Count Dooku. (captured from the DVD on my computer) I erased everything except Yoda, and made him the foreground layer. Used the smudge tool and eraser tool on his hair to give it that opaque look around the edges.

Picture two - Geonosis hanger. Found a frame of the Geonosis hangar (right before Yoda walks onscreen) to use as the background. Resized the picture, called up a 'smart blur' or two, and the backround was done. Then I adjusted the color balance to give it a bluish tint. I layered that behind Yoda.

Element #3 - The words. This was the tricky part. Remeber when I said I erased the lightning? Well, I used it for reference. First I found a font that I liked, and rearranged the letters of 'YodaMan' in a way that I liked, the letters were white.
Then, I created a strand of white lightning, just a series of lines, from Yoda's palm to all the letters. Then, I duplicated that layer a few times in a bluish color. Then, I applied a number of gaussian blurs to the white and blue lines to simulate lighting effects.
After that, I restacked the layers in the order I wanted and.....
TA DA! A finished sig! :-)

BTW, I always called them 'sigs' because they were in people's signature lines.

YM

EDIT: Yes, I guess I do have too much time on my hands.

OK...here's my try at it...visually appealing...tells a story...ah heck, the tires are the letter "O"...too easy.... And all done without layers. Never could get the hang of those...

or...with the stencil letters...

Ola Rob

If you like I could do some Photoshopping to design a banner for you

I think you remember the Market Garden Banners I have Designed to promote the campaign here is an overview of them

And the first sig line banner I had here on the site of my dio DISTRACTION

Tell me if you like the idea as I really like to play a bit around with Photoshop and it`s funny to make Banners.

Another thing I made is this presentation of a figure I made a couple of months ago.

Faust, sure I'd like to see what you come up with. So many neat ones, perhaps I'll ask Jim to make a poll to select one.
