An announcement from Dragon Models has a whole slew of figure sets going back in production, and they also have a set that will include one new figure.

Well this is all well and good, but are they going to be brought up to today's standards? That would be great because they're all great kits.

Will we ever see a Pacific Theater Marine and Army tank crew from Dragon? Considering the fact that there are no options in styrene and Dragon has released Pacific Theater armor and half-tracks, I think that PTO AFV crew figures would be a welcomed release!!!

From what I consider my "golden age". I was between 10-16 when most of these came out I think. The growing variety of German sets with Ron Volstad's artwork captured my imagination and gave me the love and drive for the hobby I still have today at 26. I remember seeing the Kampfgruppe Von Luck set for the first time. It was right after Saving Private Ryan came out and it clicked. I knew when I saw the box art, I had just seen something I would love for the rest of my life. DML figures are ALWAYS good news.

Johnny, there are at least 3 sets of tank crew figures in styrene that I can think of: MiniArt 35128, and Fine Molds FM-22 and FM-23.

There are A LOT more than just three US/ALLIED figure sets out there in 1/35. However, the GERMAN figures FAR OUTNUMBER the US/ALLIED single figures and sets in today's world. Just look at the list at the beginning of this forum: Out of SIXTEEN RE-POPS, we get FOUR US/ALLIED figure sets, one of which is the SAS JEEP. I'd be willing to bet that THE MAJORITY of the older figure sets have NOT been "improved" with "GEN 2" parts or up-dated to today's standards- The biggest exception in that last sentence being the SAS JEEP Commander's Vehicle kit. And then, there's that ONE new figure...

I know... GERMAN sells... But hey, it's a GOOD THING, mostly...

On a much more positive (?) note, these sets will be great for the guys that missed out on these figure sets the first time around and through several successive re-pops over the years...

Hi, Dennis,

Right you are! As I already stated in this forum: apparently, every German soldier has his own styrene copy as a Dragon figure. And still, Dragon comes with new, and, like their recent announcement, even with re-issued German themes. Must therefore be money driven. Which, to me, makes clear that you and I do not think (and buy models) like the main stream market Dragon customers.
But, I agree with you, some Allied AFV crews would be more than welcome. Not only tankers, but also artillery crews and scouts. Not to speak about the incresing number of soft skins, which are waiting to be manned.
I guess that only if we discuss this on this forum, which certainly is read by business deveopers at Dragon, MiniArt, amongst others, we might wake up some minds. Finally, no one knows which snow flake breaks the brench. As far as we set our focus on Dragon.
But...................let's look around, to others than Dragon.
MBLtd and MiniArt are moving forward very well. Maybe, we should pay less attention to Dragon, if we do not want to see more mini-Axis..........
MiniArt and MBLtd are already coming up with very well made and non-standard Allied themes. Maybe, here somebody will look after our requirements and considers a UK crew for a 155 mm, the GMC or a half track.
And, there is hope, Bronco comes with 8 air borne riders.

And to the FM22 and FM23 models: they are both Japanese! Rare too!

Heya, Chris,

Thanks for the input! Great to see Japanese tank crews in styrene, but I'm pushing for U.S. Army and Marine crews appropriate for tanks, LVTs, and half tracks...

Right now, unless I am wrong, I think the only possibility in plastic is using figures from the Mini Art US Tank Crew Set #35126.

I've got a composite hull M4 and an M28A3 (aka T28) that I'm trying to finish and 'll need some crew figures for in the next few months and I was hoping for something in plastic... Got a Dragon M3 GMC in the stash, too.

That being said, I've got a Type 89, Type 97 in the stash and nearly finished Type 95 that will need crew, too, so this is helpful!!

So keeping my fingers crossed that we'll see U.S. PTO crew figures, too.

Thanks again, Chris!!

With Regards and Aloha,

Johnny B.

Can't most of these older sets still be found on EvilBay? I don't understand why I would want to pay Dragon more, for older figures.

THANK YOU, JOHNNY, PAUL & CHRIS!!! I'm starting to see more posts from people who, like me, are getting pretty tired of the GERMAN stuff getting all the attention. WE KNOW, ALREADY!!! GERMAN SELLS!!! But MAYBE, JUST MAYBE, if we saw some MORE NEW US/ALLIED STUFF, US AND ALLIED STUFF WOULD SELL, TOO!!! OF COURSE THE GERMAN STUFF SELLS, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU HAVE A RATIO OF 20 GERMAN SUBJECTS TO 1 US OR ALLIED!!! Now I'm going to get bashed again for opening my mouth!!!

As Charlie Chaplin said in the 1940 movie, "The Great Dictator", playing the "Adenoid Hinkle" character: (guess who that character was) "FREI-SCHPRECHEN SCHTUNK!!!" I STILL get a kick out of that old flick!

But seriously guys, can't we have just a LITTLE BIT of parity in the mix??? Some years ago, Ampersand Publishing's MMIR Magazine used to print up a "Wish List" in just about every other issue, and I DISTINCTLY REMEMBER SEEING JUST AS MANY, IF NOT MORE, US/ALLIED SUBJECTS ON THE LIST AS GERMAN ONES- "Paper Panzers" were barely mentioned. Happily, some of our requests, be they GERMAN, SOVIET, JAPANESE or US/ALLIED came to fruition, which is ALWAYS A GOOD THING!!! I refer back to those older magazines quite regularly, as they are STILL pretty relevant.

The "BALANCE KNOB" on sound equipment is there for a reason... Most of us welcome all those GERMAN subjects- All we're asking for is some of stuff that's found on the other side of the fence... That's not too much to ask, is it?

PS- WARRIORS, VERLINDEN and several other Figure Manufacturers make/made some pretty good US Army and USMC Infantry and Tankers in resin- I've got a bunch of 'em! DRAGON ALSO makes/made some nice US/ALLIED Figure Sets. For example: The USMC "Guadalcanal", "Peleliu" and Iwo Jima sets, the various British/Commonwealth sets: "North West Europe, 1944 Infantry", 2 0r 3 Para sets, Italy and Africa Infantry Sets, Artillery Crew and BEF 1940 sets. Then we have the US 2nd Infantry, Armored Infantry, "Bridge at Remagen", "Bastogne, 1944 set, the "Rangers At Normandy, 1944", a Heavy Weapons Squad set, 29th Infantry at "Omaha Beach", and a few others that I just can't put my finger on at the moment... MINIART, MASTER BOX and RIICH have also joined the fray...

Let's see a show of hands: Who would like to see various "Full Sets" of US Army, USMC and British/Commonwealth Infantry Squads "On Patrol", "At Rest" and/or Taking Five"- eating, sleeping, reading, cleaning their weapons- you get the idea... How about all you guys that like to build softskins? Wouldn't a truckload of GIs seated in a Jimmy 6 x 6 be a good thing? (in different poses, of course)

We could stand to see the various "Colonial Groups"- Sepoys, Ghurkas, Ghoumiers, etc... Aussies and New Zealanders!!! We could use more Tankers, Truckers, Mechanics, Medics/Corpsmen, WACS, WAVES, WRENS, ATS Girls, Red Cross Girls, Nurses, AND GIRLFRIENDS!!! How about a Surgical Team? A Communications Group? ENGINEERS, doing what they do best?

We could LITERALLY use a couple of BOATLOADS of GIs, MARINES, Canadians AND "Tommies" for the various Landing Boat and LVT kits, in animated poses- crouching, soaking-wet, miserable and afraid of what's coming...

WE COULD STAND TO SEE SAILORS, who have been SO UNFAIRLY IGNORED for all these years. Yes, and we could stand to see Soldiers, Sailors and Marines in their "dress" uniforms, as if enjoying some "Leave and R&R". MPs, SPs, "Snow-Drops"- The possibilities are endless!!! Who's with me on all this?

Ditto.

I wish they'd re-release the Armored Recon set too. All you need to are replacement heads and it'll be great.

It is nice to see some of these older Dragon figures again as they were hard to locate, if at all. However, having built all of these kits many times, Hornet/Warrior heads will still be needed to improve the old, standard DML heads/faces. So, drag out the wallet if you plan to purchase any or all of these old kits. Still, it is good to see that DML listened to their fan base, as it were as some of these guys are still pretty cool even by today's standards. My advise, grab all you can as these will soon go the way of the American plains bison.

I'm with you Dennis, bring on the Allies.... It seems Masterbox and Miniart are the only ones listening at the moment with Allied releases. I convert most of my figures but would still love to see some DYNAMIC poses like some Brit paras charging across the Orne Canal or HAND TO HAND with some SS at Arnhem...Commandos at Dieppe....Aussie diggers HAND TO HAND with Japs at Kokoda....Rangers clearing bunkers on Point Du Hoc.. Anyway, I'll keep praying to the model gods...!

I'm actually surprised they didn't do any 70th anniversary figure or armor kits. Stalingrad, Kursk's is this month, the start of the Italian campaign, etc. Would've been nice to see them capitalize on that.

THANKS GUYS, FOR ALL OF YOUR SUPPORT!!! I TOTALLY AGREE: WHY haven't ANY of the kit manufacturers done anything to commemorate WWII's 70th ANNIVERSARY? At the very least, attach a sticker to the box top mentioning this fact..?

Now if only CERTAIN Model Manufacturers would listen to us, they could be stuffing EVEN MORE MONEY into their already morbidly obese foreign bank accounts... Can you imagine all the huge profits that they've already made over the decades by repeatedly re-issuing the same old stuff?!?

A LOT of DRAGON's "NEW!!! re-popped stuff doesn't even get tweaked where needed- Instead of re-releasing their SAME OLD "NEW!!!" stuff, why won't the "Big Model Mogul" CORRECT the mistakes, inaccuracies and omissions in all those M4 Mediums and US Half Tracks first?!? We all know that since TASCA-now-ASUKA hit the markets, the "BIG REPTILE" has lost many of their M4 Medium buyers... About the only advantages to buying a DRAGON M4 over a TASCA-ASUKA M4 is: a. PRICE, and b. their "DS" Tracks, which are superior to Vinyl Tracks. A lot of us replace the original kit-supplied tracks anyway...

WOW! Talk about going !!! I really had no intention of this turning into another rant, but we can all see that what I'm talking about here is ALL VALID, irregardless of this forum's original subject. Sounding like a broken record IS NOT FUN Please forgive me...
